Energy Drinks Research done by Kathrine and Hayden

We believe that energy drinks should not be sold at the PTA concession stand because they are not healthy. They can cause brain damage and they can stunt child development and growth. Also kids cannot always be trusted to make right decisions so they could buy a very unhealthy amount.

We interviewed 18 students.12 students at our school believe that energy drinks should be sold in the PTA concession stands. 6 students believe that energy drinks should not be sold at PTA concession stands.

We interviewed 15 teachers. 3 teachers believe that energy drinks should be sold at the PTA concession stands. 12 teachers believe that they should not be sold at the PTA concession stands.the reasoning for the students saying yes is.The students would just get them because they taste good or think the ingredients aren't bad.amd the teachers reasoning is that there ingredients are not bad. This shows that students and some teachers need to be educated on the bad side effects drinks, and that the amount each person has needs to be monitored.

Some of the side effects are:

Caffeine- insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, stomach upset, fast heartbeat, muscle tremors

Taurine- can off set natural nitrogen balance, decrease in metabolic efficiency and strain on kidneys, children may experience stunted growth

How much of the ingredients should kids assume daily?

Caffeine- 100 mg per day

Taurine- 100-500 mg per day

Vitamin B12- 2.4 mg

Gink Biloba- 1.5 mg per week

Artificial sugars- 5% of our daily calories

Guarana - 2g per day

Piridoxinetci- 60mg per day

And 1 energy drink can overpass almost all of those amounts!

Niacinamide- 2-6 mg a day

This is a gink BilOba tRee in the SUMMERTIME

Ginkgo biloba leaves are related to and can have the same effects as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.

Ginkgo BIloba trees adapt EASILY s to the fall and always take on a a yellow color

These are ginkgo biloba leaves

These are ginkgo nuts

Ginkgo nuts should be eaten in limited quantities. Consumption of more than 10 raw or cooked nuts in a day may cause 4'-O-methylpyridoxine (Ginkgotoxin) poisoning. Ginkgotoxin is heat-stable compound that do not destroyed by cooking.

After looking at, we found out that there are many possible bad side effects found when consumption of Ginkgo Biloba occurs. Ginkgo Biloba is found in Monster, Red Bull, and AMP energy drinks. Ginkgo Biloba is dangreous to teenagers. This ingredient has many possible side effects that can harm us badly and affect our insides and outsides including anal sphincter spasms, behavioral changes, bleeding after surgery, bleeding of the eye, blood in urine, bruising, cardiac arrest, coma, constipation, diarrhea, distortion of taste, edema, fertility reduction, gastrointestinal pain or irritation, headache, heart palpitations, hemorrhage, hypomania, inflammation of the anus and rectum, internal bleeding in the skull or brain, irregular heartbeat, ischemia (reduced blood supply), loss of eurologic adverse effects , palpitations, priapism (prolonged erection), psychiatric adverse effects, sadness, sedation, seizures, serotonin syndrome via additive effects with MAOIs, skin reactions such as inflammation, numbness, rash or stinging, sleepiness, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, stroke, upset stomach, vomiting, weight loss, widened blood vessels, withdrawal syndrome and dependency. Other effects may be worse and cause even more problems in the human body. It will have a worse effect on bodies that are still growing and can mentally affect us with problems like depression, which is more and more common for kids to have these days. The worse possible side effect is death.

This message was to help both kids and parents. I hope you realize that the pleasure or energy is not worth the problems that may follow. Think about the thousands of kids who have either lost their lives or taken their own lives. It could have all just started with a simple energy drink that had Ginkgo Biloba in it. Is it worth a life?
