Camp Chronicles: Taliana Kaufusi

What does it mean to you to follow in your father's footsteps and be a Ute?

How has practice been going so far since everyone has returned?

With the COVID-19 protocols, how have you and your teammates been able to find ways to continue building team chemistry?

"Throughout captains week, we were able to spend some time together at the lake and do other activities together, while following COVID-19 protocols, which was so much fun."

Without having games to play this fall, how is the team staying motivated?

"We are hopeful for a spring season. Everybody on this team wants to be great, so we are putting in the work for spring play. We have been grateful to have been out on the field because some schools are still not able to practice. Getting that head start is a huge advantage for us and it’s something that we are staying on top of and not taking for granted."

What has the transition been like for you to join the team as a freshman?

"It’s honestly been awesome. My new teammates have been so great and welcoming. You can tell that our coaching staff wants us to succeed and they do everything they can to help us accomplish our goals. I’m just thankful for the opportunity to be here and do my part for the team."

How do you think the team will come out of this crazy year stronger because of what you have gone through together?

"Throughout the summer everybody was willing to show up to training, though they were not mandatory. That shows that we are committed to becoming better."

What is something you are looking forward to once competition returns?

"Once competition returns, I’m looking forward to putting everything that I’ve worked for out on the field."
