PARK HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL THE DEERSTALKER ISSUE 54 - 11th May 2018

From the Headmaster:

I think that if this were a printed newsletter, then it would be wrapped in plastic with a gold front page and sold as a collectors edition.

What a superb week for all of us at Park Hill.

I will let the images do the talking for this edition and in the order of events from the past seven days. Once you have clicked on the images they should present themselves as a gallery, I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as we enjoyed being part of them. Wonderful memories created this week.

It is critical that I thank everyone involved in all of the events and memories made this week. We are a small school and rely on everyone, teacher, chef, secretary, cleaner, parent and extended Park Hill family members to name but a few to give our children every opportunity to enjoy an extraordinary range of activities. This week alone could not have happened without a tremendous amount of hardworking and good will.

Next week is not quite as busy. Whilst we have a camp out to look forward, we feel it prudent not to proceed with the Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 walk to Isabella Plantation due to the myriad of events that took place this week.

Yours sincerely,

Alistair

Linda Garnett Celebration

Happy Birthday, Linda! What a wonderful afternoon to celebrate our longest serving member of staff who, as you can see from the images, was rather surprised!

Triathlon Team - National Triathlon Championship

It has been quite an energetic week. The triathlon team completed their first full triathlon this week. As you can see from the image below the children were most impressive and rather pleased with themselves that they managed to successfully complete the full distance; bring on the National Championships!

Mayor of Kingston Visit to the Art Exhibition

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Julie Pickering and her Consort James Pickering to Park Hill on Friday to view the exceptional art exhibition. With a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the art on display, Councillor Pickering spent over one hour with the children and readily joined in with the interactive workshops on offer.

What impressed me about the Mayor was her enthusiasm for promoting Kingston, support of local businesses and establishments and genuine interest of what we are achieving with our use of technology and broader curriculum.

Uniform

Our children regularly receive comments on their appearance and manners from the wider community. We do enjoy a rather smart uniform and encourage the children to take pride with all they do. We would be grateful for your support in ensuring that all items of uniform are labeled so that we can help in the return of lost items and also in ensuring that our children continue to take pride with their appearance.

ILG Athletics Championship

I make no secret of my love of sport and I will confess to a particular fondness for athletics.

We hosted the inaugural ILG Schools Athletics Championships on Friday afternoon at St. Mary's University in Twickenham. Children from each school jumped, ran and threw as part of the team event and impressed us all with their determination and spirit.

I am delighted with just how well all of our team did on Friday. They have every reason to feel very proud of themselves.

I am equally as pleased that our Under 9 Girls Team came away as the overall winners at their age group. We also came way with a good number of new records including 60m sprint, hurdles and relay. Quite an afternoon!

If you wish to apply for a place for breakfast club for the next day or coming week, these requests can be accommodated up to 2pm each day, with the form being taken off line at 2pm to ensure we can make the necessary arrangements. These bookings will need to be made each week and will be 'online' from 3pm each Friday afternoon for the consecutive week.

Website

We are in the process of developing a new website. We are hoping to reveal our new site very shortly.

The grid calendar is back up and running, although we are still trying to publish 2018-2019 term dates and remove the 2016-2017, however they are in the grid calendar.

Parking

Please help us maintain the very best relationships with our neighbours by not blocking or parking in their drives when dropping off or collecting your children.

Please do not park on the yellow chevrons directly in front of the school or across driveways for the safety of all of our children.

Woodland School

Could I ask that you ensure that waterproof trousers, Wellington boots and coats are brought into school on the relevant day (regardless of the forecast) so that we maximise our use of Richmond Park.
