Character Winners

Congrats to these students for being recognized as the January examples of Self Control. We appreciate all our students who work hard and display this trait.

IREAD: Third Grade Only

The IREAD 3 testing window for Greenfield-Central is scheduled for March 31st through April 3rd. This means that our students will take the assessment after spring break.

Shoe Drive

Shoe Drive for Changing Footprints: Harris participated in this Hancock County fundraiser. Last year, Harris was recognized for donating over 800 pairs of shoes. This year, Harris collected a whopping 1, 269 pairs of shoes. Congrats to Emmie M., AJ S., and Dane S. who were able to silly string a staff member of their choosing because they brought in the most shoes. Great work also by the following classes for the highest overall totals: Turpin, Spivey and Thompson. Thanks to a donation from O'Charley's, they will have a pie party next week! Most importantly, parents, thanks for helping your student practice generosity. Harris sure is a caring place.

Arrival

School Starts @ 7:50 AM

Harris AM Drop Off: Harris officially opens the doors to students beginning at 7:30 AM, using the car line off Elm Street on the north side of the building. Students left before that time are not supervised and left in an unsafe situation. Please ensure the safety of your child by supervising them until they are dismissed from your car by school staff.

Attendance: We encourage all of our students to attend school whenever they are well enough to do so. Good school attendance is important in helping students achieve academic and social/emotional success.

Dismissal

School Dismisses @ 2:10 PM

Leaving by car: Students who are being picked up by a car should use the car line off of Elm Street on the north side of the school. Staff will assist in safely loading students. Please leave your car tag visible until after your child has been claimed. If you do not have a car tag, you may be asked to pull around. If you are picking up a GIS student with a Harris student, it is recommended that you do not arrive early. It takes GIS students a while to walk over.

Leaving by foot: Students who live in a walk zone and leave on foot will exit out Door 1 by the office. For the safety of our walkers, car traffic in this area should be limited to guests with business at the school.

Harris uses the School Dismissal Manager program or app to manage transportation arrangements for our students at the end of the day. Parents may also use this to report absences or schedule early dismissal for appointments. To ensure an accurate dismissal, any change you need to make to your child's after school transportation should be done through this prior to 1:15 PM.

Field Trips and Parent Volunteers

Field Trips: If you plan to attend a field trip with your student, you must have a background check on file. Please complete the Volunteer Application for this background check. The system has a delay, so you want to be sure to take care of this well in advance. The link is below.

Parent Volunteers: Our volunteer profile form is available for the 19-20 school year. Just click the link below! You have to be approved to work as a classroom volunteer and to chaperone field trips. The system has a delay, so you want to be sure to take care of this well in advance of volunteering.

Breakfast and Lunch

Lunch Accounts: You may put lunch money in your child's account at www.ezschoolpay.com. There is a small fee and you will need your child's student number found in PowerSchool. Lunch money may also be submitted by check. Please be sure to keep your child's lunch account in good standing. Additionally, our cafeteria computer system does not have the capabilities to put a "block" on student lunch accounts for purchasing extra lunch items. Please talk to your child if you do not want them purchasing extra items.

2-Hour Delays & Breakfast: Harris does NOT serve breakfast on 2-Hour delays.

Lunch Visits: If you plan to visit during lunch, you will need to bring your ID. Please also remember that school rules apply for students: students must remain in their assigned seat, follow cafe rules, ask to use the restroom and remain in the cafe. Any food brought should only be shared with your student. Due to food allergies and illness, please do not share food with other students.
