1. )Influence: To have an affect on someone or something.The change in temperature is affecting global climates changes. Energy is influenced by temperature that is causing the change in climate.
2.) Denitrification: The decrease in nitrogen or nitrogen compounds. Nitrogen is one of the main cause of the destruction of the ozone layer. Therefore we need to decrease the amount we release into the atmosphere.
3.)Phenomena: An event that is predicted to happen or have happened.Global warming is being studied for its concern and effect it will have in the future. By 2020 scientist predict that the global temperature will go up by 2.0 degrees fahrenheit.
4.) Algorithm: A set of steps to follow when problem solving or finding calculations.Scientists are using algorithm to figure out weather patterns. These calculations can tell us the average earth's global temperature.
5.) Judgments: to make presumptions or a realistic conclusion.The global climate change is based on judgments. We won’t know the exact temperature change so it is estimated or predicted.
6.) Industrial: also known as manufacturing or commercial business.It was during the industrial age when greenhouse gases started to affect climate change. As the industrial age grows so does the amount of the greenhouse gases emitted.
As the Earth’s temperature rapidly increases, its causing polar ice caps to melt. These Ice caps are home to a variety of animals. For example, Cory Richards from National Geographic's stated “Many species have been impacted by rising temperatures. For example, researcher Bill Fraser has tracked the decline of the Adélie penguins on Antarctica, where their numbers have fallen from 32,000 breeding pairs to 11,000 in 30 years.” Not only is climate change farcing animals that live on the polar ice caps to migrate; its actually emitting more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases create more heat that the environment can’t handle. An article from Skeptical Science explained “ Detrimental effects include loss of polar bear habitat and increased mobile ice hazards to shipping. The loss of ice albedo , causing the ocean to absorb more heat, is also a positive feedback; the warming waters increase glacier and Greenland ice cap melt, as well as raising the temperature of Arctic tundra, which then releases methane, a very potent greenhouse gas.” Thusly, global warming is harming the environment by melting glaciers and polar ice caps, increasing greenhouse gases, and forcing animals on the move.
There is both natural green gases but there is an increase of unnecessary amount of unnatural greenhouse gases that play a big role in global warming. From Earth's observator, they explain how the “Earth's temperature begins with the Sun. Roughly 30 percent of incoming sunlight is reflected back into space by bright surfaces like clouds and ice. Of the remaining 70 percent, most is absorbed by the land and ocean, and the rest is absorbed by the atmosphere. The absorbed solar energy heats our planet.” There are natural greenhouse gases that balance out with the earth's temperature. Its when the industrial revolution started when humans started to release more gases that the Earth cannot handle and breaks that balance. Marc Lallanilla, writer for LiveScience, wrote, “This exchange of incoming and outgoing radiation that warms Earth is often referred to as the ‘greenhouse effect’ because a greenhouse works in much the same way. Incoming UV radiation easily passes through the glass walls of a greenhouse and is absorbed by the plants and hard surfaces inside.” much of what Marc explained connects to the greenhouse gases causing global warming. Since there is so much extra gases being released, it's trapped in the Earth's atmosphere and by this it acts like a blanket, warming the Earth. That being said, greenhouse gases are the cause of the earth's temperatures increase.
There is a large connection between agriculture and climate change; one affecting the other equally. From European environment Agency, “Farming in particular release significant amounts of methane and nitrous oxide, two powerful greenhouse gases. Methane is produced by livestock during digestion due to enteric fermentation and is released via belches. It can also escape from stored manure and organic waste in landfills. Nitrous oxide emissions are an indirect product of organic and mineral nitrogen fertilizers”. Many of the fertilizer used in farming contain a variety of chemicals and gases will absorb into the atmosphere after precipitation occurs. Since greenhouse gases are the main concern of climate change, agriculture and farming add on to those emissions. An article from Global Change explained , “Exposure to high temperatures during this period can greatly crop yields and increase the risk of total crop failure. Plants exposed to high nighttime temperatures during the grain, fiber , or fruit production period experience lower productivity and reduce quality. Not only is agriculture affect climate change but climate change is affecting crop growth. Since climate and weather is so important in growing plants, it can become a big problem when crops aren't growing properly. With growing population the demand in food also increases but with global warming food and other natural materials will become scares. Thusly farming is only increasing the Earth's temperature and global climate change is decreasing farming production.
Scientist are trying to predict future climate change by going back to when greenhouse gases first started. Dr.Edward Hawkins, from the University of Reading, helped for a study where, “First, they attempted to select a period prior to significant global warming – before many greenhouse gases and land changes occurred. Second, it would be best to have a choice that didn’t have natural forcings. Using three different analysis methods, the authors are able to conclude that from their pre-industrial time to the 1986-2005 period, there was a likely global temperature increase of 0.55–0.80°C (1–1.4°F).” Scientist compared sediments from before greenhouse gases and sediments now where greenhouse gases are common. Bethan Davis, writer from Antarctic Basics stated “By looking at past concentrations of greenhouse gasses in layers in ice cores, scientists can calculate how modern amounts of carbon dioxide and methane compare to those of the past, and, essentially, compare past concentrations of greenhouse gasses to temperature.” From greenhouses gases that were absorbed in ice cores, scientist can calculate the quantity of greenhouse gases, then compare them to now and predict how much gases there will be in the future. Furthermore scientist look to past sediments and compare them with the present.
Our bodies have a natural way of adapting to new places or situation and whether we can adapt to global warming has been a widespread debate. Matthew Huber, Purdue University climatologist, stated that, “The most direct way for humans to respond physiologically is to get small and skinny, to decrease our volume and maximize our surface area so we can lose heat more effectively.” Our bodies could adapt to the climate change and the increasingly hot weather. By staying fit and living more healthy it will be more easy to adapt. John Riley, writer for MIT Technology Review, quoted “The report does conclude with high confidence risks to low-lying coastal areas: emergencies during extreme weather, mortality from heat, food insecurity, loss of livelihood in rural areas due to water shortage and temperature increases, loss of coastal ecosystems and livelihoods that depend on them, and loss of freshwater ecosystems.” On the contrary, our bodies may be able to adapt but other resources and our environment won’t be able to. As humans, we need those resources such as clean water. All in all, we must think of how global warming affects all not just humans physically.
