"DNA" by Alex Deleon-Diaz, Baltimore Highlands Elementary School, Grade 3
"Koi Fish" by Logan Clark, Battle Grove Elementary School, Grade 3
I drew Koi Fish. I made one in the middle and two that don’t fit on the paper. This is called bleed. Mrs. Merkle showed us a picture of Koi Fish and our class learned to draw only part of the fish near the edge of the paper to make it look like the fish are swimming away. I drew curvy lines to make the water and then I used red and orange for the fish so they would stand out. We had to color each section so the same colors were not touching. I really liked making this picture. -Alex Deleon-Diaz

"Soccer Girl Action Figure" by Lila Zobel, Pine Grove Elementary School, Grade 5
This is an action figure I created to represent me as a soccer player. I drew the action figure digitally using Procreate. I made the box by hand using recycled items I found in my house, like cardboard, scrap paper, and magazines. I created a feature where you can take the drawing out of the box like when you open a doll out of the packaging. The drawing that you can pull out is on a piece of carboard with a little handle, so it is easier to pull out. I wanted to make my soccer girl action figure drawing into a 3d box, so it looks like an actual action figure packaging. I wanted to make it that way because I really enjoy creating different structures using recycled items I find. Creating this action figure was fun for me. Both the drawing and creating part of this action figure was a fun experience. I was able to show my creativity in something that I really enjoy doing. -Lila Zobel

At first, I was planning to make it Black and White, but then when I added color, I learned that it doesn’t hurt to try something new! Good stuff might come out of it. I also learned that marker and colored pencil look good together. I saw the landscapes by Henri Rousseau. I was surprised that before he became an artist, he was just a normal person who works. So, I thought I could change up my landscape a little and I added mountains so the viewer could see the horizon line. -Blen Asaminew
