Hillsboro High School J.A.M.S. 17+ Transition Program

We create our own future!

Who do we serve?

We serve 17-22 year old Hillsboro High School young adults with special needs who are capable of managing personal safety skills and performing independent tasks.

To provide all of our students with a quality education that maximizes their potential for independence and enables them to be valued, contributing members of their community.

To provide students with instruction and practical experiences to identify their strengths, and resources so they may develop a lifestyle of their choosing,

J.A.M.S. Program & Approach

We develop job skills through our community partner's job-site activities and by securing a non-paid internship through Vocational Adjustment Career Preparation.

Apartment Style Living...

We develop independent living skills through practical activities in our classroom "Apartment". Activities include cooking & preparing meals, house-cleaning, laundry duties, and basic household management.

Money & Financial Management...

We develop personal financial skills that enable us to manage our own resources. Skills include managing a banking account and maintaining a personal budget.

We develop our own independence through obtaining a valid Texas ID, securing transportation via H.O.T. Rural Transit, and enhancing our assertive communication skills. We benefit from the community based instruction, small group and independent work, and a curriculum which focuses on transition.

Results are reviewed from anecdotal information and reports from students, parents, teachers, and job supervisors.
