Sam's Photovoice Portfolio

Week 1

These photos are the best photos that I took during the week, as you can see I put filters on them to make them pop a bit more since they were a bit bland to start off with. The selfie was taken in front of Spencer James' house, it's my best since the lighting is pretty good and gives off a nice mood. The DirecTV remote was my best familiar object photo since it came off as a pretty good photo and it really encapsulates a good mood, it was taken in my family room since it has a soft background and nothing really eye catching that could distract someone looking at my photo. The family photo is a photo of my dad, and for obvious reasons he's standing in the family room, this was a very rushed photo but it came out better than the horizontal photo since on the horizontal one is very dark.
These are the rest of my photos I took for week one, I still edited them to make them look the best they couldn't, but they didn't come out as well as the others.

week 2

These are my best photos coming from the snapshot and portrait assignment. The one on the left is my snapshot of Ismael while the one on the right is the portrait of him. I actually didn't edit any of them because the snapshot was a quick photo and the portrait came out pretty good without filters.

week 3

In the photo the the left you can see a police car that had stopped someone and in the right photo you can see someone with a hood fake bullying Jacob. For the left photo, since I couldn't get a photo of police brutality, I opted for a picture of a cop doing his everyday job, you can see because of the caution post in the bottom left side that it was pretty high priority so I added that in for a little clue into what happened. For the photo on the right, I tried to show bullying by having two of my friends act out bullying and then putting a dark filter on, symbolizing the darkness of bullying and the coldness of it too. You can see it’s bullying since Mateo is choke-holding Jaccb and holding a pencil to his throat and there is a dark filter on it.

week 4

Artist Statement

My message for my final photos is that funding for schools is too low. This message is important to me since I am a student and I've witnessed things that could be solved with increased funding to the school system. When my audience views these images I want them to feel that my message is important and to feel that schools are faltering in ways they shouldn't be.

week 5

Since this image didn't fit with my original artist statement here's my new one to go with it, My message for my final photo is that gun violence is reaping chaos in our country and we need to stop it. This is important to me since there's so many shootings against unarmed people who don't deserve to die and I believe that that is unjust and needs to stop. When my audience views this image I want them to feel pain and sadness because of the fact that unarmed children and adults are getting killed every week and that is just downright depressing.
