I first met Kyria Williams in the fall of 2010, as colleagues in the insurance industry. After our initial connection, she proceeded to tell me she was called to be a writer and was going to produce her first stage play. Considering I had just met this young lady, I thought she was being overly enthusiastic, yet her energy instantly intrigued me. She later invited me to her first table reading and I was amazed! It was nicely decorated, food, and music in the background as if I stepped into a house warming party. Needless to say, her professionalism and need to set a comfortable atmosphere for all involved, was the biggest impression she could have made that day.
As I listened to the actors and actresses read their lines, I was moved, captivated, and inspired. It was not only what she had done but how she did it; her presence and skill as a storyteller - a filmmaker’s dream! She was spellbinding, funny, delightful, expressive and full of life. Her stories were organic; I could tell the move of God was on her and in her writing.
After years of working with Kyria, I never knew that my creative art would be attached to Kyria's body of work. We eventually joined our ambitions to produce a film that we could be proud of and one that would continue to spread the gospel. The gift that God placed within us superseded our level of expertise. Today, we are glad to present The Wake Up Call, the first of many films to come.
