Anchor Activity "Last Player Back"

Anchor or Main Activity: "Last Player Back"

Ideal Age Range: 9 years of age and older. Note: Some 8's may be able to perform as well.

Setup: 4-8 players. Two goals made with flags or cones. Field is longer than wide.

Instructions: Play 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4. When attacking, all players must be on field. When defending, last player drops back and plays goalkeeper. Last player must stay on line. When defending team regains possession, the last player comes out of goal and helps attack.

Technical: Dribbling to set up pass, Passing, Receiving, Combination Play

Tactical: When to dribble vs pass. When to step to defend vs drop, Where to make a 2v1 into a 1v1 defensively, Transition from attack to defense and vice versa

Physical: Forward, backward, and lateral movement. Agility, balance, coordination

Mental: Positive mindset to attack, Determination to keep opponent from scoring.

Coaching Questions: Attacking: What do you need to do to commit the defender? (Dribble towards them) Defending: How can you make a 2v1 into a 1v1? (Angle my run to take away the pass to the 2nd attacker)

Easy Level: No restrictions for either team. Play this level 3-4 times for 2 minutes with a 30 second rest in between.

Challenge Level: Attacking team must score one touch. Play this level 3-4 times for 2 minutes with a 30 second rest in between.

Advanced Level: Attacking team has 7 total touches as a unit. Defending team can play 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 OR drop a player back to play goalkeeper
