Gary James Paulsen (born May 17, 1939) is an American writer of young adult literature, best known for writing all kinds of stories not just of the wilderness. He is the author of more than 200 books and has written more than 200 magazine articles and short stories, and several plays, all primarily for teenagers and Brian's return was the last book of the hatchet series.

There is abunch of themes like survival,and nature,and making choices. he had to survive like staying warm for instance he had to cut firewood to burn and stay warm. he also needed bug repellant so he don't get eat up with mosquitoes. and nature he has seen alot of beautiful things in nature he went northern pike hunting which i think would be fun myself.
