Mission Statement

Our goal is to provide food to people living in poverty. This will allow them to save up and buy other necessities like housing, utilities, and clothing without having to worry about going hungry.

Our Problem

According to Poverty Statistics in the United States, ¨43.1 million people (13.5 percent) were in poverty.¨ People living in poverty are forced to make difficult decisions every day when it comes to the necessities in life. As an unfortunate consequence many people are left with no choice, except to go without food. Our organization is trying to eliminate hunger from the the Midwest starting with our local food pantry to provide food to those in need.

Why It Is Imporant

This is important because we are giving many poor people a chance to provide food for themselves and their family, so they can have their nutrition for the day. Nearly 3 billion people in the world live in poverty today. ¨A study released in 2010 found that 47 percent of households that the Greater Chicago Food Depository serves have had to make the choice between buying food and paying for utilities. The study also found that 44 percent of households had to choose between paying for food and paying for housing.¨ If we can start an organization where we can collect food from various schools, companies, etc., it can make a huge impact on the people living below the poverty line today. Providing them with food will make it easier on every aspect of their lives because they can focus on other important things to improve their lives.

Plan To Solve The Problem

Our long term goal is to eventually build this organization up to provide food throughout the US. We will start off small in the Midwest by taking donations from local schools, church's, communities, or any organization willing to donate food or money. We will set up donations boxes throughout places so people can donate what they can. Our plan is pick up these donations every two weeks to restock our food pantry. Another available option is dropping off the donations yourself to our local location. High school students and adults are welcome to volunteer any day of the week. There is a signup form on our website click here. ¨There are roughly 15,083 food pantries in America as of 2015.¨ Our organization's goal is to increase that number by opening several food pantries beginning in our local area. If we are successful enough, we also want branch off into other areas.
