Barbara DeUgarte, Member of Board of Directors
I have been in Gettysburg since 2003 and since GCT opened 10 years ago. I have watched the theatre grow and provide this community with much enjoyment and opportunities for both adults and children to grow in skills, self-esteem, and confidence, as well developing long-term friendships.
When my children were young, we were involved in a theatre company in Rockville and in retirement, I work as an artist (a part-time avocation during my working years) and have served on the ACAC board, working to bring creative arts to as many people as possible. During my working years, first in special education and then as a Physician Assistant and counselor in psychiatry, I saw first hand how important the arts are for a balanced and fulfilling life. Visual arts, music, and theater arts build self-esteem, develop skills for living, provide enjoyment and an important outlet for bridging the transition from working to a successful retirement
I have watched my grandchildren participate here at GCT in the musical and theatre training and summer camp, and have seen them succeed in so many areas. While attending many shows over the years, I have also seen GCT provide opportunities for special needs kids through the Penguin Project, and for people of all ages participating in the music and dance lessons, acting in productions, volunteering as stage crew or the many other volunteer activites. The people of Gettysburg have been generous in their donations, and their gifts of time and talent to make this possible. This community is fortunate to have these opportunities available here in Gettysburg and while on the board of GCT, I look forward to helping these programs to continue and perhaps find additional opportunities for GCT to contribute to the community.
I thank everyone who has generously contributed over the years. You have made these programs possible and it has enriched the Gettysburg community greatly. As we enter the 11th season, I am excited to see the GCT growing and continuing to enrich all our lives.
