Message from Mr Mayne
‘It is requisite that, besides being ingenious, we should be brave in proportion.' Welcome to our second instalment of the Brunel Blog! Our quote from Brunel indicates what we hope our pupils will strive to be. An ingenious thinker who is also prepared to be brave in their pursuit of bettering themselves. It has been evident this term that we have many pupils who are willing to put themselves out there, be brave and work hard at making things better for themselves and others. Each of the 6 colleges have been given 10 ‘Golden Tickets’ to give out to members of their college when they see someone testing themselves or going out of their comfort zone for positive reasons. I have been delighted to give out 3 tickets so far and these pupils, plus the other 7, will be rewarded towards the end of the year. During this term we have seen our college members receive awards for Maths, Languages, Sport and Volunteering as well as Business Enterprise and culinary skills! It has been a pleasure to present these awards. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the staff and pupils in Brunel. Mr Mayne.
Prefect trip to the Trafford centre
On Thursday 6th December all the prefects went on a trip to the Trafford centre as a reward for all the hard work that has been shown throughout the various duties. We all got onto the coach and around 45 minutes later we arrived. We established a meeting point at John Lewis at the talking Christmas tree and after that, the time was ours. Many prefects took the opportunity to take advantage of the 100's of shops by doing some Christmas shopping for parents or friends.
A lot of the prefects felt a film would be a great way to fill our five hours of freedom and went to watch the new Disney film and a few of the boys went to see a comedy Christmas film. As the night died down, many of us went to a coffee shop to relax and recover from the hours of walking and shopping. We joined the teachers and regrouped at around half 8 and, after a few collage pictures, we headed home. The coach journey was host to a great amount of joyful Christmas singing; which we are sure all the teachers and coach driver much appreciated.
Thank you to all the prefects that came and made the night really enjoyable for everyone and thank you to Mr Mayne for organising the trip and to all the other teachers that made the night possible.
