Fernando Jorge Aniceto Silva born in the beautiful village of Óbidos (Portugal) in 1966. Since very young he felt passion for music. His father sang fado as an amateur and his uncle Guillerme, father’s brother, saw his ability for music; therefore offered him a Portuguese guitar. Fernando still remembers that the instrument seemed bigger than him as he was only 12. As his uncle use to play guitar as an amateur to join his brother singing and Fernando, at that time, was so young but he could not take his eyes away from the uncle fingers. He still remembers the tenderness of those fingers while playing that instrument. At home, they had a big collection of fado music records and soon Fernando tried to reproduce in his guitar the sounds he heard in those records. So, few times later, he began to play for some amateur singers in private parties and local fairs in his place and he start to be very popular and appreciated as a guitar player among his friends and audience. Meanwhile, in school he finished his studies as a Mold Projectors Designer and he works for a couple of months in a small town named Marinha Grande. However, his passion and dream is to become a successful guitar player. Therefore, during the week-ends it was usual to see Fernando playing his guitar in the traditional places, like restaurants and clubs. One day, Fernando met an ex-teacher, named Tó Freitas who worked as drummer in a very popular Portuguese TV (RTP). This teacher told him that they were looking for a guitar player to stay as a resident in that show and the producer after talking and listening Fernando invited him to join the group for a year. In 1990, Fernando was invited by Paulo de Carvalho (very popular Portuguese singer) to be his private guitar player during a tourney which includes several foreign countries. Later, was invited by Nuno da Câmara Pereira, another fado singer, to be his guitar player. He accepted this invitation and therefore he played together with the classic guitar player Carlos Garcia (Cajé) and Fernando Maia (bass guitar). Nowadays, Fernando, in special occasions, is invited to play to this artist, specially to make new records. Fernando Silva performed as a guitar player in several typical Portuguese restaurants, for example, “O Faia”, “Grande Tasca”, “Luso”, “Forte D. Rodrigo” and other. Invited by Carlos Zel (a famous fado singer) he joined the team of “Quartas de Fado” at Casino Estoril together with the other musicians, Carlos Garcia and Marino de Freitas, in which he accompanied our best fado singers. This fact, contributed for his success and to be included as one of the best Portuguese guitar players. Since 2000, together with Jaime Santos (classic guitar player and Tó Moliças (bass guitar) he start to play to the popular fado singer, Rodrigo, accompanying him in all concerts in Portugal and all over the world, making also TV shows as well as records, until today. At the same time, he is still invited to accompany other singers as Mafalda Arnauth, Dulce Pontes (recording to her a double album and a DVD in Istanbul). He recorded a CD of instrumentals with production of Pedro Brito and arrangements of Ramon Gallarza. Fernando Silva took part in several records for many singers; example: Teresa Tapadas, Lenita Gentil, Entre Vozes, João Ferreira Rosa (Live at Casino Estoril), George Dallaras (greek singer), in duet with Dulce Pontes, Duas Luas de Marco Quelhas, Rão Kyao e Teresa Salgueiro, Débora Rodrigues, Natalino de Jesus and a live concert in Coliseu of Lisbon with Paulo Gonzo and Carlos do Carmo. When Mariza presented in the Portuguese Radio Station – Antena 1 – her first record, Fernando Silva was invited to play in direct on that show. For all these reasons, Rodrigo (as a professional and very popular fado singer for almost 50 years) consider Fernando one of the most complete guitar players, having in account his creation, his dynamic, the quality of his sound and his passion for the Portuguese guitar. Having great affection and respect for this art, Rodrigo believes he will have lots to give to the Portuguese music, especially in the fado field! ucation, the Tó de Freitas, who knew its endows to touch guitar, as later she hugs the musician profession alone, is invited by Júlio Isidro for the band of its program in the RTP - Light of the Ribalta, and as they needed for the parts of Destiny of a guitarist, remembers the Fernando and invites it to be the guitarist resident, where if it kept circa a year. Exactly now, the Nuno when sing does not excuse the Fernando as its guitarist, as well as when it records. played in diverse enclosures with Destiny, being distinguished the Faia, Grand ..Tasca, Luso and others. In “the Fourth of Destiny in the Wonder Bar” in the Casino Estoril, Carlos Zel invites it for guitarist, to the Cajé as viola accompaniment and Marino Freitas, for viola-softly, resident musicians of the event, had the chance there to follow great names and values of the Destiny, what obviously he contributes it for its matureness as accompanying of Destiny.
