Why I am Who I am Emily Thomas

I definitely didn't want this picture taken.

Since day one I have been pretty girly. I loved having tea parties with my dolls and dressing up. I would wear those stick on fake nails and cry when one fell off, not because it hurt but because my nails didn't all match. Although, growing up with brothers also meant I was around video games and belching contests equally as much.

When I was 15, my half-sister Lily was born. Then a while later my nephew, Everett, made his appearance in the world. Being 200 miles from the two muchkins while I'm at school has been hard, FaceTime is very convenient for keeping in touch though.

UW-Stout has been a home away from home for me over the past three years. I have made some pretty amazing friends as well as joined a great organization. STS has played a huge role in shaping who I am and helping me grow as a young professional.

College is about experiencing new things and finding who you are. I had lived in Wisconsin for my whole life up until last May. I moved down to Illinois for an eight month internship, I was terrified to live alone and in a different state for the first time. It did come with its perks though, I was only an hour train ride from Chicago. Even though I am a Brewers fan through and through, being in Chicago the weekend after the Cubs won the World Series was very cool.

I am so grateful for all the opportunities I have been given and the people I have met. I look forward to what the future holds for me.
