World TB Day 2021 Social Media Toolkit | #WorldTBDay

On March 24, 2021 we are joining our global partners to recognize and raise awareness for World TB Day. Respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis (TB), are a major cause of human suffering and death. As the world continues to grapple with COVID-19, we are all recognizing the importance of global and public health management, funding, and policy.

Fighting Pandemics

The COVID-19 pandemic has made the world aware of how deadly respiratory illness can be. However, respiratory infections have been with us for a very long time and will continue to be a major source of human suffering and death.

TB is a global disease, found in every country in the world. In 2019, 10 million people fell ill from TB and 1.4 million died.

The COVID-19 pandemic serves as a grave reminder that health threats can travel swiftly across continents and oceans. We stand in solidarity with the global fight against COVID-19 and we hope the world will emerge from this crisis with a renewed commitment to aggressively anticipate and address global health threats and pandemics.

Keeping The Promise

On January 28, 2021, a new report, Keeping The Promise: Product Development Partnerships’ Role in the New Age of Health Research and Product Development, was published that showcases the Product Development Partnership (PDP) model and its role in developing new products for people suffering from diseases and health threats underserved by traditional markets.

Since 2010, PDPs featured in this report have developed and introduced 66 new and repurposed health technologies that have led to advances in combating diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, cholera, river blindness, meningitis, and others.

These products have reached more than 2.4 billion people around the world, including especially vulnerable populations, such as women and children.

Please find graphics and drafted posts for your use on social media platforms to help raise awareness of the new report and to recognize the impact that PDPs have made in fighting diseases and global health threats. Don't forget to use #KeepingThePromise in your posts:

Next Steps:

Significantly more remains to be done if we are going to end TB and fight global health threats.

Today's treatments cannot most effectively combat the pandemic because they are too long, complex, and unable to sufficiently address the full spectrum of drug-resistance. Overcoming the TB pandemic requires new and dramatically improved therapy that will be effective against all forms of TB and can be given to all TB patients.

Below, please find resources and drafted posts for your use on social media platforms to help spread awareness and #endTB. Don't forget to use #WorldTBDay and tag @TBAlliance in your posts.
