Wrestling

The Spartan wrestling team traveled to the 2019 Southeast Regionals hosted by Lycoming this past weekend. While the Spartans didn’t have the team success they had hoped for, the Green and White will be sending three Spartans to the Division III National Championships.

Senior Greg Warner earned his second straight regional title at 149-pounds as he breezed through the draw to earn his fourth NCAA Championship berth. Warner enters the national championship tournament with 29 wins.

Senior Dylan Nuttall fell in the semifinals of the 125-pound bracket but he battled back to finish third and earn his second straight trip to nationals. Nuttall got a pinfall win in the consolation semifinals and then earned a 10-3 win in the consolation finals to earn the berth at nationals.

Junior Brandon Ballard had a longer road on the path to the national tournament. Ballard lost to the top seed in the heavyweight quarterfinals. He then battled back with two pins and an overtime win to get to the consolation finals. Ballard then notched a 3-2 win to earn his trip to Roanoke.

The trio heads to Roanoke for the championships on March 8 and 9.
