Symphonic Band 4th Period

Congratulations! You made it to Symphonic Band!

What does that mean? You are now in the top ensemble at First Creek Middle School. Symphonic Band is responsible for many more performances, especially ones outside of the school that represent the Eastside! Symphonic Band comes with more responsibility, more leadership, and more awesome music!

Responsibilities

Every musician's main Responsibility is to their practice. Not just what we do in class, but also outside of class. Symphonic Band requires the extra Responsibility of practicing every day outside of class. The pressure is on! We perform the most often, with the widest audiences, and usually with the most difficult music. The fastest way to be successful? Practice. Outside. Of. Class.

Each member of Symphonic Band is Responsible for keeping track of our performances and field trips. I highly recommend subscribing to the Band Performance Calendar (or adding it do your phone) so that you always know what we are up to! Due dates for permission slips, fees, and uniform orders will automatically be uploaded to the Calendar so you will get an alert just before it's due.

Leadership

Symphonic Band is the most visible ensemble at First Creek Middle School. We are leaders not just through performance, but also through our actions inside and outside of the classroom. Symphonic Band students are leaders for the FCMS Music program as well as our younger Band classes. It is vital that Symphonic Band members are respectful, hardworking, and kind. We are setting the example for our Family and actions speak louder than words.

Section Leaders and Class Leaders are an important part of the Symphonic Band. Section Leaders help make sure their section (split up by instrument type) is being responsible in their practice as well as classwork. These leaders are elected in class to help run Sectionals, Warm-ups, Music Turn-In, and Performance Set-Up along with the Class Leaders.

Class Leaders are two of the most Responsible students in the Symphonic Band. They are typically 8th graders that the class has nominated at the beginning of the year and Mrs. Brazley makes the final selection after a quick meeting with the students. Class Leaders are in charge of helping and assisting Section Leaders during sectionals and are taught how to run Warm-Ups and other large group work for the class. These special leaders meet with the Section Leaders and Mrs. Brazley to check in with the rest of the group to make sure everything is working well. All leaders have a voice in Fundraising, Field Trips, Performances, and Visibility for the program.

Awesome Music!

This scene, one of many in the windows of Bergdorf Goodman, shows a woman conducting madness of music around her in what seems to be an all-too-fitting metaphor to close out twenty seventeen."
