Blues Cruise october 2016: through a different lense

The legendary Buddy Guy has only recently started playing the cruise. Amazing person: could you do this at 80 years of age?
Hold on: it's going to get nasty...

Supa Chikan with one of his fighting cocks (Laura 'La La' Craig). This band were just awesome: great musicians, even better entertainers.

After a performance like that, you'd need to light up a cigar! Also, Supa Chikan makes his own guitars: note bass player Heather Falduto's guitar: yep, it' s a chook. The cigar box guitar is indeed a cigar box... with a cigar, of course.
One of the unique parts of a Blues Cruise are the one-off jams. Here, band leaders Kenny Neal and Ana Popovic go toe to toe, playing off one another's energy. One of 'those' moments. Unrepeatable?
Quinn Sullivan: the young gun that Buddy Guy has mentored. Bags of talent.
The Reverend Billy C. Wirtz, with Victor Wainright (Southern Hospitality) in the background.

Danielle Schnebelen from Trampled Under Foot. Bottom right, her brother Nick and Albert Castiglia share the stage.
Not just a pretty face: Ana Popovic is a seriously gifted guitarist, vocalist and song writer.
Southern Hospitality were probably my favorite performer from the cruise, thought it's hard to pick. A super group of the south, guitarists Damon Fowler and the fabulous JP Soars are terrific artists in their own right. Together with Victor Wainright, they're unstoppable. Phew!
Debbie Davies guests with Roomful of Blues.
Mixed medley 1: From the top: guest Vanessa Collier; one of the horn section from Roomful of Blues at a jam with Randy Oxford; bottom left, the fabulous Selwyn Birchwood on guitar, and bottom right, Keb Mo. Middle right, a devlish shot of Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos.
Mixed medley number 2: Top left: Marty Sammon from Buddy Guy's band. Tom Hambridge (top right) not too familiar to most, but a producer and song writer who has more credits to his name than you can point a stick at. He'll be the one making the money? Next row, guests Paul Nelson and Nick Moss. Bottom left: Michael Ledbetter, another guest who is the lead singer of the Nick Moss Band. Bottom right: Me.
The band that plays together sticks together?: Los Lobos have been making great music with the same lineup since the early 80s.
