It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! December 2016

The holidays are upon us! With semester tests and projects due this week, everyone is busy! For science and social studies, I recommend that students create flashcards for academic vocabulary or terminology using the flashcard app on their Ipads. It's very easy to use and, after the information has been entered on the cards, students can play games and practice/review using puzzles and more. Please help me to remind the students to study every night and to make sure all assignments are up-to-date.

The Trail of Lights at Zilker Park is open and ready for visitors! If you haven't been, it's a spectacular display of colorful lights and various themes, a fun way to spend an hour with family and friends in Austin. Our beautiful city is full of splendor this time of year, from the holiday decor at the Texas State Capitol to the streets downtown lined with lights and garland. I recommend that everyone get out after dark and enjoy the festivities. Check out the Austin 360 website for events and happenings around town.

Finally, it's time to gather holiday cookie recipes! I've asked the students to find a recipe for one of their favorite cookies or bars so that we can include the recipe in the cookbook we are creating. On Friday, we will have a class party in the classroom and students are invited to bring cookies to celebrate the season! With so many food allergies on campus, store bought cookies with ingredients listed are preferred. We are interested in learning all about your holiday traditions, so feel free to share.

We're going to have a great week, and I want each of you to know how much I enjoy teaching your children. They are a DELIGHTFUL group of students! Enjoy the week ahead and the sights and sounds of the season!
