Complex Text in Kindergarten Students learn reading strategies and how to respond to literature in different ways

The teacher first introduces the strategy, schema, to the students. Then, the students write and draw what they already know about frogs, which is the theme for the week.

Then, the teacher reads the story of the week, "Growing Frogs" by Vivian French, followed by other theme related books.

Students partner up to make a T-chart to show what they have learned about frogs.

Students then use picture cards to retell the story "Growing Frogs" in order to ensure understanding. This also helps students enhance their vocabulary and verbal skills.
