LHC eLearning Update October 2016

Google Account Log on

The log on information for staff and student Google accounts are now the same as your Office 365 accounts. This makes it much easier to utilise both systems effecively without forgetting passwords. It also means easier access a couple of handy Google tools.

Google Tools

Google Shortener: Shorten web link names and generate QR codes for them while tracking statistics of how many views your link received.

Google Alerts: Looking for up-to-date information about a particular topic? Use Google Alerts to send you an e-mail about new information. Very easy to set up and use.

New Look Libguides Pages

The e-Learning/Digital Resources Libguides pages for staff and students have had a facelift. They now have a more accessable layout and have been broken into more useful categories. An example of the new look can be found in the image below of a comparison table for common formative assessment tools. Please go to Libguides and explore the Staff Digital Resources page or the Student Digital Resources page.

Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality

These are all big buzz words at the moment. The 2016 K-12 Horizon Report predicts that virtual reality (VR) will be impacting classroom teaching in the next 2-3 years. We currently have the capability to utilise augmented reality (AR) in our classrooms at LHC via the app Aurasma. See the video below for an explanation of each of these realities, or for a more detailed explanation of how they can be used in the classroom, try reading Kathy Schrock's blog post.
