OUR EXCURSION TO BLACKBUTT RESERVE

Unfortunately, many of the excursions that we had planned for 2021 have been cancelled, due to ongoing COVID restrictions. In recent weeks, the lifting of some of those restrictions enabled us to take the students of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 to Blackbutt Reserve. Thanks to Cathy Dent, Cathy Curk, Layne Wiseman, Issac Fox, Daniel Lockwood, Ben McCarthy and Will McMaster who came along to assist with supervision.

YEARS 1 TO 6 SWIMMING CARNIVAL

This Friday (10th December) we will run our annual swimming carnival for the students of Years 1 to 6. The details, as per the letter that was sent home last week, are as follows:

  • Parents and carers are asked to drop their children outside the Swansea Swim Centre between 8.30am and 9.00am.
  • The students will walk back to the school after the swimming carnival, and will arrive back at St Patrick’s by the close of the school day.
  • What to wear: Sport uniform. Shirt may be a coloured shirt to match the house colour. Swimmers must be worn underneath clothing – the changing rooms will not be used.
  • COVID-safe plan and a risk assessment: A COVID-safe plan and a risk assessment have been developed to ensure that all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure that the students, staff and volunteers are safe. If you wish to have a copy of these documents, please email peter.green@mn.catholic.edu.au. The following dot points summarise the precautions that will be taken:

o All volunteers:

  • Must be registered to volunteer at the school.
  • Must show their vaccination certificate as they enter the Swansea Swim Centre.
  • Must sign in using the Swansea Swim Centre QR code.

o Staff, students and volunteers are not to attend the swimming carnival if they are experiencing a fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue and/or shortness of breath.

o Ensure participation of students with known allergies has been considered, and implement appropriate risk controls.

o Ensure that asthmatic students bring their medication and that they carry it with them at all times.

o Students will sit within their class cohorts, not their colour house groups.

o To avoid use of the changerooms, the students will be required to wear their swimmers under their clothes when travelling to and from the pool. The only times that a student will enter the changerooms will be to use the toilets.

o Students will be encouraged to:

 Use sunscreen.

 Wear a hat and shirt while not swimming.

 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

o Students will be discouraged from;

 Sharing towels, hats and other items of clothing.

 Cheering.

o The school will supply sanitiser at strategic locations within the pool area.

o As the swimming carnival will take place in an outdoor venue, the wearing of masks by adults will not be mandatory, but adults wishing to wear masks will be permitted to do so.

o No students are to use the toilets without being accompanied by a buddy student.

o Adults who are acting as spotters during races must carry a piece of rescue equipment, e.g. a kickboard, noodle or rescue tube.

o Staff escorting students back to the school at the end of the day must walk at strategic points along the line of students to ensure that the students are safe. Staff must be vigilant throughout the return walk to the school

FAREWELL CLAP-OUT

On Wednesday afternoon next week (15th December), beginning at 2.30pm, we will say goodbye for the final time to those students and staff members who are leaving St Patrick’s, including our Year 6 students. We will be implementing some COVID-safe protocols that will ensure that the cohorts of students do not mingle during the clap-out.

Unfortunately, COVID restrictions will not allow us to invite parents and family members on site. However, we will live stream it through our Facebook page. At the conclusion of the clap-out, the departing students will leave the school site via the back gate and proceed into the car park. You may wish to applaud them as they walk through the car park, but we do ask that you physically distance yourselves from other families.

Our apologies for imposing such harsh controls on what will be a lovely and somewhat emotional occasion, but these restrictions are intended to ensure that we are safe.

Lacey also carries out all these responsibilities with reliability and commitment. Lacey, your peers respect you and admire you. You set a tone for the classroom and the playground which is positive and happy. You do this by being so present to everyone and allowing them to be comfortable enough to relax, to be themselves and to enjoy your company.
