SLAUGHTER LEARNING COMMONS REPORT 2016-2017

Library Programs

Makerspace grew in popularity in it's 2nd year with more regular use by various grade levels. Maker Monday was new this year, and it was intended as a way to get our youngest (K-1) makers into makerspace in a structured way. 5th grade has enjoyed Thursday makerspace.

Coding club also grew in popularity in year 2. The number of 5th graders interested doubled to 60 at the beginning of the year, but dwindled in attendance throughout the year. 4th grade coding club happened in a rotation from class to class coming only on Wednesdays. K-3 were able to code as part of makerspace, or a special lesson or even such as Hour of Code in December.

Kid tested and teacher approved! Scholastic publications will be purchased with book fair profits for small groups K-5 next year! Feedback appreciated throughout the year to determine the value of these materials.
