MAC News ISSUE 10 2017

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This Newsletter comes to you at the start of the holidays.....yes...that's right, Term 2 is over! I'm sure i'm not alone in wondering where the first half of the year went. And as for those of us who were perhaps hoping for a slow last week so that we could ease into the school holidays, it just wasn't to be. We've had Parent/Teacher Interviews, Semester 1 reports handed out and a truly enjoyable NAIDOC Celebration to end what was a very busy Term.

As Parents, Caregivers and Students, it is hard sometimes to not be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of activity that life brings. Even with the advent of the many time-saving devices and digital calendars and programmes designed to make our life run more seamlessly, there often feels like there is too much to do and too few hours in which to do it. So what do we do when we feel overwhelmed by all that life brings?

Matthew 11:28-29 (MSG) says:

“Are you tired? Worn out? ..............Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Getting enough sleep, taking time out for a hobby, going for a walk out in nature or relaxing with a book are all good ways to take physical rest. But alone, these things do little to give lasting rest to our soul. Soul rest has it's roots deep down in the faith and confidence we have in God and His promises. It comes to us as we learn to trust God and place our lives in His care. When we realise that we are loved unconditionally and forgiven for all of our failures and that we are held safe in the arms of our heavenly Father, who has promised to never leave us or forsake us. When we partner with God, our souls will then find a rest that is unshakeable and not bound by circumstances. It cannot be taken away.

During the next few weeks of school holidays, I hope all our College staff and families get a chance to stop, breathe and take time out to refresh their bodies and minds, but more than that my prayer for our staff and families would be that they would experience the type of rest that God in His mercy and kindness, has made available to each of us.

Stage 2 Excursion – Hua Xia Orchestra

On Friday 23rd June, the Year 3 & 4 classes attended the Hua Xia Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. The orchestra delivered unique cultural performances showcasing their traditional Chinese Folk Opera Music and Instruments. There were also performances by the Sydney Youth Orchestra and the American Youth Choir. The students really enjoyed the variety of musical performances and had a wonderful time visiting the Sydney Opera House.

2017 Rugby League 9's Girls Wests All Schools

Macarthur Adventist College entered a Rugby League U/16's Girls team to compete in the 2017 Rugby League 9's Girls Wests All Schools, a round robin gala day with the top team to represent the zone at a Western Sydney Finals day.

The girls had a slow start with with two early losses to Sarah Redfern HS and Casula HS, however as the tournament progressed they grew in confidence and played some good structured rugby.

Strong solid defence and hard ball running led Macarthur to a convincing 20 - nil win over John Edmonson HS but came with a cost as a few sustained minor injuries and bumps.

Macarthur's last game against Moss Vale HS was a highly spirited effort despite fatigue setting in, the girls attacked well and defended equally as ferocious. The end result was another decisive 16 - nil victory.

The girls played hard and fair all day, giving their best and playing for each other. They should be proud of their efforts as they represented Macarthur in the spirit of the game.

The standout players for the tournament were Cleopatra Carreno ( Captain) Amelia Fine, Astadaryl Toala, Jeanne Bloomfield, Vanessa Setu, Viriseta Marawa and Eileen Sinaki - Teulilo.

The tournament MVP was Anna Moa.
