Good Practice Compendium A quick overview of what you can learn!

Welcome to this quick overview of the Good Practice Compendium 2017 - below you'll find a video interview with each project lead, as well as a link to download the Compendium (it's free to download and available to all).

Building safer communities award

These projects all address specific problems in communities by supporting the people experiencing them. Read about Linc Cymru's work to tackle domestic abuse, Trivallis' UK-first pilot on information sharing with South Wales Police, and Charter Housing's multi-project work on increasing wellbeing to improve community safety.

Campaigns, communications and publications award

This category contains a diverse range of projects - you can find out about Cardiff Metropolitan University research on tenant perspectives of Universal Credit, Cartrefi Conwy's approach to engaging tenants at the BIG Day Out, and how Valleys to Coast Housing are using personas to get their staff to focus on the real impact on tenants.

Community focused contractor award

Each project here demonstrates different ways that contractors are making a difference to local communities and the local economy. Building futures in Flintshire focuses on Wates Residential's training programme, Keepmoat Regeneration's work at Walters Terrace looks at how integrating with the community plays a huge role, Lovell's The Mill project examines how corporate social responsibility can be delivered on big urban sites, and Morganstone's back into the community campaign focuses on employability and getting women into construction.

Customer excellence award

You can learn about new approaches to customer experience and service from the projects shortlisted in this category. First Choice Housing Association share how merging teams created a customer service function, Melin Homes talk about increasing the channels available to tenants, and Mi-space's work with Tai Tarian looks at how repairs teams can provide great experiences.

Empowering and involving communities award

The projects in this category are all about helping residents shape services. Learn from Newport City Homes' Shaftesbury Youf Gang which empowers community-minded young people, and Newport City Homes and Charter Housing's UNITY youth forum which is influencing locally and nationally. Hear the story behind Own 2 Feet...Living, Bron Afon Community Housing's development initiated by and for young people, and learn about the Tenant Assessor Group that's testing services for Rhondda Housing Association.

Increasing equality and diversity in housing award

In this category you'll find learning from projects that are helping address the equality and diversity deficiency in housing leadership, or creating a working culture that celebrates and encourages equality and diversity. Gwalia Care and Support's work with Gypsy and Traveller groups in Gwent is assisting a group that is under-represented amongst users of housing services, WISH North Wales are building a network to support and develop women in social housing, and Tai Calon's Equality Street project is making equality and diversity a familiar and every day part of their working culture.

New development award

Three extremely different projects that show the diversity of challenges that development can face, this category represents an opportunity to learn about new homes that are meeting specific local needs. The Wenallt Uchaf devleopment by Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd is a great example of developing in an extreme rural location, the Leonard Charles development by Coastal Housing Group shows how new homes can be made from refurbishment projects, and Lovell's Loftus Garden Village is an example of building at scale on a derelict site.

New ideas and approaches award

Read all about the new ideas that are redefining frontline services in Wales. These projects all demonstrate creativity and share the lessons they learnt whilst going after better outcomes and increased efficiency. Charter Housing and Caerphilly CBC's collaboration on homelessness prevention, Monmouthshire Housing Association's New Homes Team and their focus on pre-tenancy work, and V2C's Space Saviours approach to outside space regeneration will all provide you with food for thought about potential new projects.

Using technology and promoting digital inclusion award

Learn from projects that are using technology to work better and smarter, or to engage with tenants more effectively. Melin's agile working journey is a story about making changes to how, and where, services are delivered. Charter Housing's approach to digital communities provides lessons in providing the impetus to get people online.

Working with other sectors award

Working with organisations that sit outside the housing sphere is more and more important in driving forward improved outcomes. The projects in this category all deliver better health and support services for local people. United Welsh's work at Brynteg Road is helping patients transition from secure forensic psychiatric hospital care to living in the community. Closer to home, a scheme by First Choice Housing Association, provides residential care for people previously housed out of county or country. Conwy Housing Solutions Step Down team have embedded a housing officer in local hospitals to improve housing options on discharge. Care and Repair Cymru's managing better project is partnering with health sector organisations to address sensory loss issues in people leaving hospital care.
