Virtual Field Trip Introducing Splash 360 with Google Cardboard

Splash 360 is an app that can be used to build a 3D record of a physical environment such as an urban and regional planning development sites, an archeological dig, an art studio, a mountain range, or an hospital operating theatre. The recording can be shared for use on an ipad or phone.

The user will open the 3D recording and move the device up, down, and around to view the 3D environment and authentically experience what it is to be in that environment. The end user controls where to look, and how long to look. The information is captured as a virtual environment rather than a video.

Note that this a low-end tool, and that 360 cameras are used to capture surgeries.

How it works

From single lens to dual lens, from 2D to 3D. The same principle is used with Virtual Reality.
