Can cancerous cells be injected with a substance that will immediately trigger to self destruct?

Scientists have discovered a combination of drugs that trigger the self destruct of lung cancer cells. When healthy cells are no longer useful, they enter into a self destruct process, but cancer cells can evade this process and continue to divide.
A team of researchers have developed a molecule that triggers a cell to self destruct by carrying salt into the cell.
I chose this question because I was curious about cancer treatments that wouldn't damage healthy cells.
Why the immune system can't trigger apoptosis in cancer cells without the aid of medication?
