Newsletter 12th July 2021

Headteacher Comment

It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome parent onto the school site to watch their talented children perform in our Singing Safaris. Thank you so much for joining us and we really hope that you enjoyed them as much as we have enjoyed being a little more Greenfields!

We have also welcomed the parents and children who will be joining our new Reception classes and can not wait for them to join us formally in September.

This morning, after our virtual celebration assembly, the children in Reception through to Year 5 got to meet their new teachers for next year. On my little tour of the school I could see children doing a fabulous job of pretending to be a whole year older! I was so very impressed with just how grown up the children have become and could see everyone trying to be the best they can be. They truly are ready for their next year. Your child/children will be back to see their new teachers again on Monday, after they have registered with their current teacher, for further preparation activities to help them be ready for September. Do remember to ask them about it! There is a list of teachers and their classes at the end of this Newsletter.

I'd like to remind you that there are no clubs next week so that we are able to hold our annual Awards Ceremonies that we will be doing in individual classes outside. You will have already received details about the arrangements for these already. Fingers crossed for good weather, everyone!

Have a lovely weekend.

Just Dance

This term in the Proud Lions class (Year 6) we have been doing Just Dance workouts every morning to get us energised and ready to learn. Here we are busting our moves!

Proud Lions shake a tail feather every morning!

Reception Running Wild

This week all children from Nursery to Year Six enjoyed participating in the DRET Sprint Challenge. Here's Reception racing ahead with Alex Green, who is DRET's head of Sport. Reception showed support and encouragement to each other. Well done Dragonflies and Busy Bees (and all the other runners!)

Medal winners were the children who were fastest in each year group - well done!

More Exciting Trips

Smart Snakes and Excellent Elephants had an amazing day at the DRET farm at Nevill Holt near Market Harborough on Tuesday and Wednesday. They enjoyed collecting fresh chickens eggs then helped by Rosie the farmer, made them into eggy bread. George the farmer helped them to bottle feed a calf and hand feed goats. They also were able to groom donkeys and pet rabbits with Farmer Dan. They ended the day with pond dipping and bug hunting. Thankfully the weather stayed dry and everyone had a great day! We are so lucky to have our very own DRET farm!

Year 2

Welcoming our New Reception Class

This week saw the start of our Stay and Play sessions for our new children starting in Reception in September. The children have loved exploring their new surroundings and getting to know their new teachers. Look at those smiles - we can’t wait for you to join us in September!

Future Reception Class Children

What a Fantastic First Trip!!!

Year Four/Five were thrilled to go on their first outing of the year. We spent the day at Wicksteed Park and absolutely loved being outside for the day. From forest school to ice creams children, and adults, had a wonderful day.

As ever, Greenfields' pupils' behaviour was exemplary and they were a credit to the school.

Sports Day-ish

In true Greenfields style, we didn’t let COVID spoil our end of year sports. Instead of having a traditional Sports Day all together, each year group selected their favourite sport they or sports had learnt over the year and held their own inter-house competition. There was a great range of sports including football, netball, curling and dodgeball, with younger children focusing on using their skills they have developed following the ‘Horizon’ programme for early sports development. The house points accumulated were combined to find the overall winner of the coveted Greenfields House Sports Cup. The winning house this year was ……Hoy! Congratulations to all the children in Hoy House (yellow). We look forward to continuing our inter-house sports over 2021-2022.

We think Maeve might be in Hoy house - but we don't know for sure!

Home School Agreement

As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
