Alumni Weekend & Homecoming 2019

Alumni Weekend & Homecoming is an opportunity for alumni to return to their alma mater, reconnect with old friends, engage with University leaders, and celebrate their pride and passion for the U! In addition to annual traditions like the ‘Canes Lounge, boat burning, and fireworks, this year’s event included new activities for alumni including a special look at the new Lakeside Village, a campus-wide scavenger hunt, and new ways to support the U.

For many, Alumni Weekend & Homecoming 2019 is a time to reunite with old friends – whether it’s ten years later or fifty…

UM President Julio Frenk joins alumni from the classes of 1926 through 1969 to kick off the weekend at the 43rd Annual Golden Ibis Society reunion.

The class of 1969 gathered at the Newman Alumni Center for their 50th Reunion celebration.

It’s a time to celebrate diversity…

At the LGBTQ Alumni & Friends Recognition Reception, alumni learned about the history of LGBTQ life at the U and met new leaders of the community, including Dr. Gisela P. Vega, director of the LGBTQ Student Center.

The Black Alumni Society celebrated 30 years and presented the UMBAS/Woodson Williams Marshall Association (WWMA) scholarships to 19 students during the Black Alumni Society/Multicultural Student Affairs Welcome Back Reception.

Alumni Weekend is also a time to thank our leaders…

During the Audrey R. Finkelstein UM Experience Endowed Lecture Series, alumni Kysha Harriell, M.S. Ed. ’99, M.S. Ed. ’01, Ph.D. ’10, and Demetrius Jackson, A.B. '17, M.A.L.S. ’19, joined Dr. Lee Kaplan in a special ‘Cane Talk about the impact of athletics beyond the field.

It's a time for innovation…

The University launched a “text to give” platform, allowing alumni to give back right from their phone.
Alumni joined in on a campus-wide photo scavenger hunt, learning about different engagement opportunities and returning to University landmarks along the way.
Alumni returning to campus shared their knowledge and advice with current students during the inaugural ‘Connecting Canes Student and Alumni Networking Exchange.
