Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston and Thomas Jefferson. were the author of the Declaration of Independence although Thomas Jefferson was the main author.

An enlightenment idea was that all people are entitled to certain rights just by virtue of being human. Another belief is that a government’s legitimacy comes from the consent of the governed. But the main idea was to protect the rights of the people.

The Declaration of Independence is the statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress.The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, by the congressional representatives of the Thirteen Colonies.
