She was the wife of king Henry VIII who desperately wanted a son to claim the throne. However they only had a daughter and this worried them because no woman had ever successfully claimed the English throne.
In 1527 Henry believed that his she could no longer bare children. so hesought out to divorce her in order to marry a younger queen.
In 1527 king Henry made a request to the pope to annul his marriage, but the pope denied this request because he did not want to offend her powerful nephew the holy roman emporer charles V.
He then took matters into his own hands by holding a meeting asking to pass a set of laws to end the popes power in England.
Henry secretly married another women by the name of Anne Boleyn. Shortly after parliament legalized his divorce with Catherine.
