The Terrific Thames River Bridge By katarina Dominguez and Kailyn Lentocha

The Tower Bridge
The tower bridge is located in London, which crosses over the Thames River
This bridge started construction in 1886, it took 8 years and finally opened on June 30th, 1894
The design was submitted by Sir Joseph Bazalgette in 1884, there were 5 contractors throughout the construction period. There were 432 construction workers employed.
The towers on the bridge each contained over 70,000 tons of concrete, on top of that there were over 11,000 tons of steel just in the frame work
It is designed as a suspension bridge and its total length is 244 meters.
It has two towers linked by two walkways. A perfect way to visit and to walk right above the Thames river.
Over 40,000 people use the tower bridge each day
It takes 61 seconds to open the bridge and over a span of a year it opens about 1,000 times
More than 50 designs were submitted for the bridge
The tower bridge was originally chocolate brown, but to celebrate the queen's silver jubilee in 1977 was painted red, white and blue.
