The Lakes School News Issue 3 a caring, learning community

Welcome to our latest newsletter which is packed full of news from The Lakes School. In this special edition we have news about our 50th anniversary celebrations alongside our usual selection of great stories.

Our 50th anniversary celebrations take place this week, beginning with a whole school assembly on Thursday morning followed by the formal marking of our Golden Jubilee at 12.00pm with our invited guests who will then be able to take a tour of The Lakes School with some of our students. Read on to find out about our event next Saturday...

On Saturday 10th October 2015, the school will be opening from 10am to 4pm to ex students and staff who would like to come along and reminisce with old friends and colleagues. You might like to use the following as a guide to help you time your visit with others who joined the school in the same year as you! Please note, these are only guidelines and you are welcome to come along at any point during the day.

11.00-12.00 1965 to 1974

12.00-1.00 1975-1984

1.00-2.00 1985-1994

2.00-3.00 1995-2004

During the afternoon, a number of ex students will be bringing together the 50th anniversary choir featuring singing talent from years gone by and a range of musical equipment will be made available on stage as we have heard a band or two may take the opportunity to reform!

Parking at the school could be quite busy on Saturday 10th so it would be helpful if visitors could share lifts as much as possible or make use of the excellent local train or bus services. Thank you in anticipation of your help.

BAE Systems and the RAF were with us again recently to deliver their annual Science and Engineering Roadshow.

Y7 & Y8 students were treated to a practical display of laser technology, radio waves in the form of flames that 'danced' to pop music and a chance to control radio waves using a Theremin. A Theremin is an early electronic musical instrument played without physical contact. It is named after the Westernized name of its Russian inventor, Léon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928.

Good News Snippets...

Every Friday morning the staff at The Lakes School get together for a short meeting where we share good news stories. Here are a few that we thought we would share with you.

We send our very best wishes to Diane Redfern, our Adult Education Coordinator, who sadly left us last week to move on to new challenges. Diane has supported so many adults in the community to further their skills and we know she will be missed.

Several of our dance crazy Sixth Form students run a Wii Just Dance club for younger students at lunch times. This week, the club has seen record numbers and now runs during three lunch times in the week. If you're interested, come along on Tuesday and Thursday this week to join in the fun and, well...just dance!

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and we look forward to bringing you issue 4. If you ever have information you would like to share through our newsletter then do get in touch.
