Attendance/ 20

Category/ Athletic, Bro-Sis, Gender Relations, Campus Spirit, Social

Event description

We got together with Carroll and lead a walkover to the ND vs. Vermont hockey game (we won!) and attended the free skate afterwards.

What was the goal of this event?

The goal of this event was to bond with our brother dorm (because let's be honest, none of us were fantastic at ice skating so we bonded through embarrassment) while also supporting ND athletics.

Date/ February 4th

Attendance/ 20

Category/ Academic, Future Outlook, Social

event description

After the success of our first trip to see Hidden Figures with our fam in residence, accounting professor Ed Hums & his wife, Shirley, we decided to take another group of girls to go see it!

how was this different from previous times?

We were able to bring more girls on the second trip because we planned and gaged interest more ahead of time.

Super Bowl Party

Date/ February 5th

Attendance/ 30

Category/ Social, Athletic, Hall Spirit

event description

The Super Bowl party was a great event for the residents of the dorm to take a study break and enjoy some quality football (but really, commercials) while enjoying the company of other residents. The dorm felt super alive for a Sunday and it gave people the energy they needed to start the week off right.

what was the goal of this event?

We could sense that studying and the stress of tests were getting to people, so what better way to destress than snacking and watching tv? The Lyons Ladies donned their fav Pats / Falcons gear and came down to the Lair to football and chill.

Fruits & Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Date/ ongoing

Attendance/ 10 per week

Category/ Academic, Future Outlook, Social, Spiritual

event description

Our wonderful AR Shelby holds Fruit and Fruits of the Spirit where she cuts up fresh fruit and fresh conversation for our residents to have some fellowship over. While feeling healthy, Lyons residents can engage in some genuine (and often not talked about) conversation topics.

what was the goal of this event?

This event is open to all faith-backgrounds and talks about faith and what it means in the context of college life. We’ve often heard that people want to have more faith-related and meaningful conversations, and this is a great platform to do so.

Category/ Social, Hall Spirit

event description

Hall government teamed up with hall staff to order Krispy Kreme donuts and Einsteins bagels for our residents.

what was the goal of this event?

We could sense that residents were hitting the point in the semester where things were getting stressful, so we thought that they would appreciate some snacks!

We invited Howard Hall to come over for a Galentines Day celebration! After dinner in SDH, we headed back to the Lair for some snacks and a rom com screening!

what was the goal of this event?

The goal of this event was to simply enjoy the company of our sister dorm ahead of Valentines Day - plus any excuse to watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is totally welcome in LH!

Valentines Surprise

Category/ Campus Spirit, Brother/Sister, Bromance/Womance, Social

event description

Lyons decided to show our love for our bro/sis dorms and bake some cookies to deliver to their hall councils for Valentine's day. Our rocking bro/sis commissioner spearheaded the event by using her fantastic baking skills to make the Lair smell faaaaantastic and warm the hearts of Carroll and Howard.

what was the goal of this event?

We wanted to spread the love on Valentine’s day and let our brother / sister dorms know we value them! Even cuter, Howard returned the love and gave us Valentines the next week with Parks and Rec quotes on them (awwwwww).

Junior Parents' Weekend Reception

Date/ February 18th

Attendance/ 50

Category/ Future Outlook, Hospitality, Social

event description

Lyons was incredibly excited to host our Junior parents for a reception and tour de Lyons. It was cool to see how excited the parents were to explore the place their daughters call home. Our hospitality commissioner, Mia, killed it by ordering fresh flowers that we are still enjoying in the Lair. The photo board with all the baby pictures of the juniors was also a great addition to the hall!

what was the goal of this event?

The goal of this event was to share the community we know and love! Lyons loves nothing more than visitors, and especially parents. Any chance we get to share our community with others is a great opportunity!

Riley is back and better than ever! After not being able to do the event last year, we wanted to bring back the event in a fun and new way. We decided to do a hawaiian themed skate to bring the warm weather to Compton. After giving a $5 or more donation, attendees could skate the afternoon away after taking some fun pics with the inflatables and snacking on some Swedish fish.

Craftivism Event

Date/ February 24th

Attendance/ 10

Category/ Service, Social, Multicultural, Academic, Future Outlook

event description

One of our seniors, Mary Kate Healey, is in the middle of doing her final project to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. For her senior thesis, she is doing a project surrounding sexual assault on Notre Dame’s campus, its survivors, and their stories. Mary Kate anonymously collected sexual assault stories and transferred meaningful quotes from them onto a sheet of fabric. She had residents of Lyons sew over the quotes so they will permanently be on the fabric.

what was the goal

To involve residents of every grade level in Mary Kate’s final project, and to raise awareness about sexual assault at the same time. If you wanna learn more about the project check Mary Kate and her art skillz out in the Observer from last week!

Students Rebuild Craft

Date/ ongoing

Attendance/ 10 per session

Category/ Service, Social, Future Outlook

event description

Through the Students Rebuild organization, our social concerns commissioner shared an opportunity with Lyons to benefit Save the Children! Save the Children benefits youth in Nicaragua and Indonesia to get the education they need to pursue their career dreams. In Lyons, we cut out hands and decorate them, and send them to the organization. For every hand we send in, $1.90 is donated to Save the Children.

what was the goal?

Lyons wanted to take an opportunity to extend our service in a more global context. Benefiting an organization that provides educational opportunities for those who otherwise would not have them is something that reminds our residents about the value of their own education.

Pop Tab Collection

Date/ ongoing

Attendance/ n/a

Category/ Sustainability

event description

Our sustainability commissioner decided to keep a box on the share table to collect pop tabs! It’s such an easy thing to do and worth the tiny effort to bring them to the share table. All pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

what was the goal?

To keep an eco-conscious mindset alive in the hall and do our best to contribute to a good cause.
