SUMMER ACADEMICS

This is a friendly reminder that all summer reading assignments are due soon. Please finish up your novels and corresponding assignments.

Curriculum Night

Please be sure to join us on Aug. 16 for this very special event in its new format! You will meet your child’s teachers and spend time with our dynamic Middle School Faculty Team (MSFT). Our hope is that you will leave Thursday evening energized about the educators surrounding your child and partnering with you to walk alongside them during the sacred time of adolescence.

Middle School Parent Conferences:

Middle School Parent Conferences are Friday, Aug. 24, and there is no school for MS students on this day. The purpose of this parent-teacher only conference is to give you an opportunity to share with your child's teacher about his or her strengths, areas of need and any other pertinent information that may help us make his or her learning experience the best it can be. You are a vital partner in your child's education, and parent-teacher conferences play an important role in helping us plan and implement programs that meet the expectations you have for your child's education and enable us to better serve your family. Conference times will be emailed soon.

Keycards

In a continuous effort to improve safety on our campuses, Mount Pisgah Christian School began using the magnetic locks on East Campus throughout the school day. Students will receive an individualized keycard in a break-away lanyard for the 2018-2019 school year. This will allow students on East campus to access any of these buildings during prescribed times. In the Middle School, students will be asked to wear their lanyards around their necks whenever they are not in PE or recess. Lanyards are considered part of their uniform. There will be a $10 replacement fee for each lost or disabled key card. During homeroom on the first day, students will receive their keycards and will be given all details regarding proper use and responsibilities.

After School Enrichment Opportunities in the Middle!

Chess club will meet for 12 weeks from Sept. 20 to Dec. 13. Total cost is $210.00 and will billed to your FACTS account upon receipt of your registration.

Middle School Cross Country

Middle School Cross Country is up and running! Signups for students interested in participating (5th - 8th) will take place outside Mrs. Rosa’s room (H318) during the first week of school. An informational meeting will be held after school Tuesday, August 14 with practice starting the following day, Wednesday August 15th. Specific time and location about the meeting will be communicated via Schoology and email during the first week of school.

UNIFORMS
  • Dress Uniform should be worn on Mondays.
  • Regular Uniform should be worn Tuesday-Friday. Spirit Wear days will be announced to students and posted on Schoology.
  • 7th & 8th Grade Students will be required to change into the MS PE Uniform and tennis shoes. Students have PE five days a week for a semester unless they choose an additional PE course as their electives.
  • The MS PE Uniform will be available for purchase through the Athletics Department. An order form was emailed to 7th & 8th Grade Parents. Please contact Rhonda Dalton with questions at daltontrio@comcast.net or 404-307-5654.
  • 5th & 6th Grade Students will have a gradual entry into changing out for PE. They do need tennis shoes for every PE class. *When children are ready, they will begin changing out. Parents will be notified well in advance to give them ample opportunity to purchase PE uniforms. We suggest you wait to make these purchases.
  • Tennis shoes should have a rubber sole (any color!) and laces. We encourage students to bring in an old pair they can leave in their locker.

There will be one more used uniform sale over the summer in Geier Hall. All proceeds support the Upper School Student Government. If you would like to donate uniform items or spirit wear that no longer fit your child, please bring these gently worn articles to the Upper School front office. The used uniform sale will be held on Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Commons of Geier Hall. Contact John Whitehurst at jwhitehurst@mountpisgahschool.org for questions.

New Item Added to Uniform Selection for 5th and 6TH GRADE Girls

We are pleased to offer the Long/Short sleeve red and navy polo dress (with School Crest!) for girls in K-6th grade. View our full uniform requirements here.

Reminder for Physicals

An important note from school nurse Ashley Mitnick:

Starting with the 2018-2019 school year, we will resume a policy at Mount Pisgah Christian School whereas all Middle and Upper School students will be required to have a sports physical completed between April 1 and the first day of school, Aug. 8.

With this policy, any physical completed between those dates will remain valid for the ENTIRE 2018-19 school year, regardless if your child plays a fall, winter, and/or spring sport. These physicals will NOT expire based on the date conducted. This is a significant benefit when coordinating with our Athletics Department to successfully manage the wellness of several hundred students. This process will improve both the health screening of students and the system used to manage them.

You may use regular physician or MD of choice for these physicals.

As an additional step to help with this process, our school nurse has contacted The Little Clinic inside of Kroger (State Bridge location). They will perform sports physicals for $29, no insurance accepted. You must arrive 15 mins before closing to be seen. No appointment necessary.

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

For those who recently had a sports physical for spring, we realize this will be redundant for you. Please understand that having all the students assessed and on one schedule for the school year will be of benefit for many years to come.

Again, if you have a rising Middle or Upper School student, you will be required to have a sports physical on file that is dated between April 1, 2018 and Aug. 8, 2018. Feel free to complete these physicals as early as possible (after April 1) and bring the form to the front office of your child’s division, so we can start compiling the information.

Thank you all for your cooperation.

Ashley Mitnick

Let's go, Patriots!
