Yesterday, one of the most important discoveries was uncovered on the land of a wealthy widow. The landowner, Edith Pretty, was amazed to find a longboat the size of 15 grown men under a mound on her farm.
The long boat, hidden beneath the soil and grass, contained a colossal hoard of treasure, including: helmets and weaponry. Basil Brown, the archaeologist, dug up the treasures. He said "I could not quite believe my eyes when I made the discovery. To think I had been putting off the digging of this particular mound for a whole year!"
Mrs Pretty intends to give the treasure to the British Museum rather than sell it. She says "people can learn from it then".
It is thought the longboat was used to bury an Anglo Saxon warrior who must have been really wealthy to have all the treasure.
