Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Mission Statement: to assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

OSHA was founded on April 28, 1971 by President Richard Nixon. It was created to lower the injury and death rates on the job. George Guenther was named the first director once it was created, but now they are led by David Michaels.

Some of the responsibilities of OSHA are providing a workplace free of hazard, examine workplace conditions, make sure workers properly use equipment, etc. OSHA has proposed a regulation based on their market failures in employment. They are currently working on storm aftermath and worker recovery.
