From September 12-16, we’re highlighting global food security. Why? Because it’s one of the best, largely untold, good news stories in the world right now. The world has come a long way on improving global food security over the past decade, which means more families have a path out of poverty in rural areas, more children are getting the nutrition they need for a healthy life, and more countries are moving toward a food-secure future.
The United States has played a leading role, particularly through its game-changing Feed the Future initiative. In fact, the U.S. Congress recently recognized the incredible results the U.S. Government has achieved in just a few years through this initiative by passing bipartisan legislation to ensure this progress continues.
Partnership has been key to Feed the Future’s success and to the reductions in poverty and childhood stunting that we’re contributing to in developing countries. This week, we’re taking a moment to acknowledge this partnership and progress -- and that our job isn’t done yet.
Momentum is strong, but we can’t let up. The end of hunger is within our reach if we continue to invest and focus our attention, resources and will on this issue.
Progress over the past decade has put the end of hunger and extreme poverty within our reach. Now is the time to recommit ourselves to continuing the important work of innovating, partnering and leading to make it reality.
