July Update from Pastor Kris
It's been a great month! Today, we have much to be thankful for as we celebrate what God has been doing at Shawnee Alliance. We also have much to look forward to.
Currently, we are celebrating the eighteen children who accepted Christ for the first time at Beulah Beach on the Road! Nothing is more important to us than introducing someone into the family of faith through Jesus Christ. Since the last newsletter we have also seen three adults come to Christ through the people of our congregation!
We also look forward to impacting more lives through our annual "Blessing of the Backpacks" service, where we will not only pray for a tremendous school year; we will gift backpacks full of school supplies to bless families in our community.
As we celebrate God's continued blessing over our church, He continues to place Shawnee Alliance Church where we can be a blessing in our community and across the world. We are looking forward to celebrating those who have decided to follow Christ in the waters of Baptism on August 8.
I invite you to join me on August 1 in the East Campus Sanctuary at 6:30pm for our quarterly congregational update. More information is contained within, so after we've taken some time to worship together, some time will be spent discussing how we will continue to reach our ministry goals together. I am excited to see how our congregation is used in the coming months!
Have you been thinking about getting more involved and serving... but don't know where to start?
There are many opportunities to get more involved by serving together! On Sundays, maybe you'd like to work with the tech team or sing on the worship team, pray for our pastors and services with our prayer team, or help make coffee for our guests. Maybe you'd rather serve at a specific event, like 5th Quarter, Upward, Trunk-N-Treat, or Family Fun Night. Our staff would love to connect you in serving at Shawnee Alliance or in the community in a way that uses your gifts, talents and passions! You can start by filling out a volunteer form at shawneealliance.com/volunteer and we will be glad to help you connect with a ministry that fits well!
Another way to get more involved is to join community through our Small Groups Ministry! Visit shawneealliance.com/groups and click Adult Groups, or use the Groups tab on the Church Center app to get started! You can use our Group Types and Filters to find the right group for you! There's still time to join the Sunday morning Philippians Bible Study and Winning the War Within on Wednesdays. Our Family Life Ministries are continually meeting, including Jr/Sr High small groups. "In-Home" and "Sports & Exercise Groups" are a great way to share life together while studying Scripture or playing volleyball! "Serving Groups" like Hands-On Ministry and Our Daily Bread allow you to get to know others while serving together.
Faith Track
Join us for a "4-weeks-in-1" session of Faith Track on Sunday, July 25! In a small group setting, we will learn more about Shawnee Alliance, develop connections, and become more aware of our spiritual gifts and serving opportunities! Find more info below.

Sunday Faith Track

Ladies Day at Beulah Beach
Mark your calendar for Wednesday, July 28 to join women from all over the district at this FREE event located at the Beulah Beach Camp in Vermillion, OH! You will enjoy hearing from popular speaker, New York Times best-selling author, and former missionary Gracia Burnham, with music provided by award-winning Gospel music icon, Natalie Grant. Come with an open heart and an attitude of praise!

Rally Point River Ride
Join us on the annual River Ride to raise funds for our local Rally Point Youth Center! Through the leadership of caring Christian adults, Rally Point provides a safe, fun, drug-free environment and seeks to give teenagers sound guidance using Biblical principles.
This scenic ride uses Lima's beautiful River Walk, through Lima's excellent parks, to get you out and into nature.
Sign up by July 17 to ride your bike and support our community on July 31! Multiple distance routes available, and lunch and T-shirts are included in the price. For more info, visit rallyup.org.
Blessing of the Backpacks
FREE backpacks will be given away on Sunday, August 8 during the 9:30 and 11:00am church services at the West Campus Activity Center! Invite your friends!
If you'd like to help us fill 100 backpacks with school supplies, please donate in the church lobbies between July 11-August 4. Thank you!
Baptism & Church Picnic
All are invited to the Martin's Pond on Sunday, August 8 from 3-8pm for Baptisms and a Church Picnic to follow! If you would like to be baptized, please register by July 25. (If you are not being Baptized, you do not need to register.)
Please bring:
- A dish to share (names A-M: dessert, N-Z: side dish)
- Swim suits, child life jackets, lawn chairs, and fishing gear (if desired)

Blake Reaman - Providence & Chicago Mission Trips
I went on mission trips to Providence, Rhode Island and Chicago, Illinois. During both of these trips, I got to experience things that I never would have been able to in Ohio. All the different cultures and languages that I saw and the different cuisines just amazed me.
The first trip to Chicago, I was asked to go and I said yes... not really knowing what I got myself into. Kind of just wanted a vacation. I knew that we would be helping out at certain places but I didn’t really know the purpose of it all. About halfway through the trip was when I felt that what we were doing was in the name of God. Whether it was simple things like washing dishes for a community kitchen or helping out at Pui Tak Christian School. All of it was for God.
That trip gave me the experience and kind of exposure to God that I needed. So when I heard that there was a trip to Providence and it was a basketball camp type of event, I had no hesitation in saying yes. When we arrived it wasn’t the most eye appealing area, but they always say to not judge a book by its cover. So I didn’t. I got to know the residents and the kids in the area and made friends with everyone I met. Playing basketball with the kids and then sitting down for a little lesson each night made an impact on not only all of them, but me as well. And it was just all a blast going to places I’ve never been before to spread God's word and to tell people that they’re loved. I’ll never forget the feeling of doing good In God's name.
Don Kihara - Beulah Beach, Burkina Faso & Providence Mission Trips
At first, I was very hesitant about going on the work trip to Beulah Beach. I did not know the people going or anything about them. But what a beautiful place it was! I met a lot of great people and had a great time. I developed some good friendships and have returned almost every year. I was new to the church; but after the trip my wife, Dona, commented that I knew more people from the church than she did!
Next we had great plans of helping with the water system and building nursing pens for the pigs in Burkina Faso, Africa. We were saddened when this trip was not able to happen, but we trust God's plan for us - then and now. We are encouraged about a new site being established in Guinea with the same vision as Burkina (well drilling, disabled ministry, etc.)!
The next step was the mission trip to Providence, Rhode Island for a Basketball camp. We had a great time with the kids, forming relationships and showing them Jesus. We also helped around the campus with demolition and building a storage shed.
I encourage anyone to go on a mission trip. It does not have to be out of the country or state. There are many opportunities right here at the church. Remember, Jesus commanded us to go out and make disciples. It is one of the missions of our church. And the impact you can make for Jesus lasts a lifetime.

Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices. You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:
- Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
- Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
- Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
- Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.
