It was pretty simple right? You go to school, learn go home, and treat the family. Almost...First off, every child goes to school. Even the slaves. You get their and do your project and so. They loved poetry especially.

If you were rich you would go to one school. If you were poor you would go to another.

The Spanish arrived around the 1500s. That then the Aztecs were conquered. The Spanish brought guns, dogs, horses, and disease. It was disease that conquered the Aztecs. The Aztec Empire collapsed. The Spanish took over the entire region.

Before the Aztecs wandered around Mexico for about 200 years before they settled down in the Valley of Mexico. Other tribes were living in the area. Rather than start a war for a place to live, the Aztecs settled down in the swampy land around Lake Texcoco.

Today, in Mexico, there are about one million descendants of the ancient Aztecs, living and working. Human sacrifice is no longer part of their festivals, but beautiful Aztec art and clever Aztec games are still enjoyed today.


Capital City

Tenochtitlan was the Aztec's capital city. By the early 1500s, it was home to about 300,000 people. It was a beautiful city, with ornate temples and open plazas and tons of little shops, each specializing in a certain goods.

Mexico City was built on the ruins of the Aztec capital city. Like the Aztec capital, Mexico City is a beautiful city, rich with history and culture.
