CANSTRUCTION 2021: AN EVENING WITH SELAH

The Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA) will host the 16th annual Canstruction event Thursday, September 30th at the Carl Perkins Civic Center with Selah as the featured entertainment.

WHO IS SELAH?

With more than half-a-billion streams, over 4 million albums sold, and 8 GMA Dove Awards to their credit, Selah’s Allan Hall, Amy Perry and Todd Smith have earned a reputation for not only delivering compelling new anthems but also for reviving great hymns of faith. With their soaring harmonies and distinctive lead vocals, they have breathed new life into timeless musical treasures that have ministered to believers for generations.

“After cancelling this event last year due to Covid, we are more excited than ever before to host our signature event that not only raises food and funds for RIFA, but continues to shine a light on the growing issue of hunger in our community,” says Lisa Tillman, Executive Director of RIFA. “We look forward to gathering together to recognize the creativity and hard work of the competing teams, while also enjoying a night of great music and fellowship.”

WHAT IS CANSTRUCTION?

Canstruction is a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed the hungry. Competing teams showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition, all of the food used in the structures is donated to the RIFA Food Bank and Warehouse to those in need throughout the Jackson-Madison County area.

“In 2019, Canstruction brought in nearly 45,000 pounds of food to stock our warehouse,” says RIFA’s Assistant Director Shaun Powers. “Each year we not only rely on this food to continue feeding our neighbors, but we look forward to seeing the creativity of each team.”

THE COMPETITION

Teams of local businesses, churches, industries and schools will build the structures on September 28th at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Finished structures will be judged and have the chance to win one of nine prizes including Best of Show, Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, and more at RIFA’s awards ceremony and night of entertainment on Thursday, September 30.

In 2019, RIFA’s event had two teams place in the international competition, bringing home awards for both the best use of labels and best meal. In addition to these awards, the RIFA competition placed 15th for the most food donated and 1st for the most funds donated in the international competition.
