Superintendent's Notes October 4, 2019

Happy Friday everyone! Fall Break is less than two weeks away - a solid reminder about how quickly the year is going. As you are well aware, Parent/Teacher Conferences will wrap up the first 6 week progress reporting period. This is a great time to have a meaningful connection with parents/guardians to discuss their student's overall growth - academically, socially and emotionally. It's important to see parents and families as partners in this process. Forming positive relationships provides a foundation for positive outcomes for students, particularly when hard conversations are necessary later. Remember we set the stage for these interactions!

Pictured above are CPHS students who are helping serve hot dogs during lunch time! This was Mr. Cooper's brilliant idea since the cook-out during Homecoming Week was rained out!

This is the FFA Educational Board that was set up for the Tulsa State Fair. We are proud of our students who participate every year representing the Sandites!

Please be reminded that United Way forms are due Monday, October 7. Please consider a donation to this worthy organization that provides incredible support to those in need in our area.

We love the celebrations held each month honoring students who show great character. Pictured here are a couple of Pratt kiddos who exhibited a high degree of RESPONSIBILITY in September!

A sweet lady called our office yesterday and spoke to Debbie Harrington, the beautiful voice of Sand Springs Public Schools. She wanted to tell whoever was "over Dr. Cowan (ECEC) and Susan Wilkerson" how much she appreciates "how sweet they are and how great they have made the transition for her 4-year-old." She didn't want to leave a name or number but wanted her boss to know how sweet they are. Thank you Dr. Cowan and Ms. Wilkerson for being sweet and making students feel welcome and safe! WE LOVE GETTING THESE STORIES!

It's always great to see students supporting each other! This photo was captured at the Homecoming Pep Assembly last Friday. Our 5th grade students were in attendance - an amazing experience they will remember for some time!

Please remember we are in the open enrollment period for health insurance. These forms are due back to Karen Taylor by October 15. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Taylor at karen.taylor@sandites.org.

This is a Monarch Butterfly from Limestone who is sporting an ID tag so that when he migrates to Mexico and, IF caught, can be entered into a database so that others can see that he came from LIMESTONE! How cool is that!?! #stemeducationinprocess

Shout out to Mr. Ryan Bivin and Ms. Michelle Spears for their work with the internship initiative at CPHS. Follow this link to the newsletter from Mr. Bivin about the School and Community Partnership Program for an update. We have placed 108 seniors in internship opportunities throughout the community. This is a BOLD statement about the support of our community partners! Thank you Mr. Bivin and Ms. Spears for making this possible!

The Sandite softball team defeated Collinsville Tuesday at SENIOR NIGHT! Great job ladies. This successful team will host Regionals!
Check out the Baseball Boosters along with Coach Brown and the Sandite baseball team helping put up new nets at the Sports Complex. We love the support of our Booster Clubs.
Mike Luttrell from Bill Knight Lincoln helped celebrate this group of #SanditeHeroes from Clyde Boyd Middle School last week. Pictured are Thomas Forbes, Mr. Luttrell, Rogelio Ayala, and Elsie Duncan.
This is the art of relationship building in action. I spied Coach Kinard greeting a young NFAA student one morning this week at parent drop-off time. There is no doubt Coach Kinard has a friend for life! Thanks, Coach, for making a difference with our young Sandites!
This amazing group of volleyball SENIORS will be heading into the Regional Tournament next week after a win over Ponca City last night at Senior Night!
Check out this gorgeous picture of the newly painted press box at Memorial Stadium.

Here is a simple, yet important reminder for us all. Our work is not easy and the students we are commissioned to reach are sometimes difficult. BUT, we must ALWAYS remind ourselves to SEE THE GOOD. The GOOD is always there for us to find! Hope you all have an amazing weekend! See you next week! ~Sherry
