Poetry Study By jaiden lehman

Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you

I drink too much and that's an issue but I'm okay

Hey, you tell your friends it was nice to meet them

But I hope I never see them again

I know it breaks your heart

Moved to the city in a broke down car

And four years, no calls

Now you're looking pretty in a hotel bar

And I can't stop

No, I can't stop

So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover

That I know you can't afford

Bite that tattoo on your shoulder

Pull the sheets right off the corner

Of the mattress that you stole

From your roommate back in Boulder

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older

This is an example of the use of hyperbole because saying that you will not get older is extreme exaggeration.

You look as good as the day I met you

I forget just why I left you, I was insane

Stay and play that Blink-182 song

That we beat to death in Tuscon, okay

This shows personification because it is giving human characteristics to a song, saying that they "beat to death" the song, meaning played it a lot.

I know it breaks your heart

Moved to the city in a broke down car

And four years, no call

Now I'm looking pretty in a hotel bar

And I can't stop

No, I can't stop

So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover

That I know you can't afford

Bite that tattoo on your shoulder

Pull the sheets right off the corner

Of the mattress that you stole

From your roommate back in Boulder

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older

So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover

That I know you can't afford

Bite that tattoo on your shoulder

Pull the sheets right off the corner

Of the mattress that you stole

From your roommate back in Boulder

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older (we ain't ever getting older)

We ain't ever getting older (we ain't ever getting older)

We ain't ever getting older (we ain't ever getting older)

We ain't ever getting older

We ain't ever getting older

No we ain't ever getting older

Tonight we are victorious

Champagne pouring over us

All my friends were glorious

Tonight we are victorious

Oh oh oh oh, victorious

Oh oh oh oh

Double bubble disco queen headed to the guillotine

Skin as cool as Steve McQueen, let me be your killer king

It hurts until it stops, we will love until it’s not

I’m a killing spree in white, eyes like broken Christmas lights

My touch is black and poisonousx

And nothing like my punch drunk kiss

I know you need it, do you feel it

Drink the water, drink the wine

Oh we gotta turn up the crazy

Livin’ like a washed up celebrity

Shooting fireworks like it’s the Fourth of July this example of imagery creates an image of how this group of friends are shooting fireworks as if it was the fourth of July.

Until we feel alright

Until we feel alright

I’m like a scarf trick, it’s all up the sleeve

This is a simile because is it using the comparison of two unlike things by using the word "like" to say that he is like a scarf trick.

I taste like magic, waves that swallow quick and deep

This shows imagery because it creates a visual of the fourth of July fireworks in the mind of the reader or person listening to the song.

Throw the bait, catch the shark, bleed the water red

Fifty words for murder and I’m every one of them

My touch is black and poisonous

And nothing like my punch drunk kiss

I know you need it, do you feel it

Drink the water, drink the wine

Oh we gotta turn up the crazy

Livin’ like a washed up celebrity

Shooting fireworks like it’s the Fourth of July

Tonight we are victorious

Champagne pouring over us

All my friends were glorious

Tonight we are victorious

Tonight we are victorious

Champagne pouring over us

All my friends were glorious

Tonight we are victorious

Oh we gotta turn up the crazy

Livin’ like a washed up celebrity

Shooting fireworks like it’s the Fourth of July

Until we feel alright

Until we feel alright

Tonight we are victorious

Champagne pouring over us

All my friends were glorious

Tonight we are victorious

"shooting fireworks like the fourth of July"

This is the song "don't let me down" by the Chainsmokers.

Crashing, hit a wall

Right now I need a miracle

Hurry up now, I need a miracle

Stranded, reaching out

I call your name but you're not around

This helps create imagery because it helps the reader create a visual image in their minds of someone who is standing alone calling out for someone.

I say your name but you're not around

I need you, I need you, I need you right now

Yeah, I need you right now

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

I think I'm losing my mind now

It's in my head, darling I hope

That you'll be here, when I need you the most

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

D-Don't let me down

Don't let me down

Don't let me down, down, down

Don't let me down, don't let me down, down, down

Running out of time

I really thought you were on my side

But now there's nobody by my side

I need you, I need you, I need you right now

Yeah, I need you right now

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

I think I'm losing my mind now

It's in my head, darling I hope

That you'll be here, when I need you the most

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

D-Don't let me down

Don't let me down

Don't let me down, down, down

Don't let me down, down, down

Don't let me down, down, down

Don't let me down, don't let me down, down, down

Oh, I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah, yeah, yeah

This is an example of a hyperbole, because you cannot physically lose your mind. Therefore it is an extreme exaggeration.

Oh, I think I'm losing my mind now, yeah, yeah

I need you, I need you, I need you right now

Yeah, I need you right now

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

I think I'm losing my mind now

It's in my head, darling I hope

That you'll be here, when I need you the most

So don't let me, don't let me, don't let me down

Don't let me down

Yeah, don't let me down

Yeah, don't let me down

Don't let me down, oh no

Said don't let me down

Don't let me down

Don't let me down (down, down, down)

Don't let me down, down, down

This is a person who is alone and in need of help similar to the song

"leaving Kansas" by Jaiden Lehman (phone number poem)

I'm moving to Oregon

It'll be cold

I leave soon

bye

to all of my friends here

and family

I'll be back
