"Yes, Pip, dear boy, I've made a gentlemen on you! It's me wot has done it!"(250) This is when the convict was telling Pip that he had been his benefactor,
":Miss Havisham's intentions towards me, all a mere dream; Estella not designed for me; I only suffered in Satis House as a convenience, a sting for the greedy relations, a model with a mechanical heart to practice on when no other practice was at hand;(253-254). This was him realizing that Estella wasn't going to marry him.
This letter was signed TRABB & CO., and its contents were simply, that I was honoured sir, and that they begged to inform me that Mrs. J. Gargery had departed from this life on Monday last at twenty minutes past six in the evening, and that my attendance was requested at the interment on Monday next at three o'clock in the afternoon.(217) This was when he found out that his sister who had brought him up "by hand" had died.
At the end of part two, the convict comes to him in the middle of the night and tells him that he is Pips benefactor and then says that he has to crash there for a while before he can go back to the new world. When the convict goes to sleep he goes back into the living room and thinks about what this means for him and the people around him. He was heart broken to find out that it wasn't Miss Havisham because that means that Estella isn't meant for him and the love of his life isn't going to be his wife. He also thinks about Joe and how ashamed he is that he abandoned him for basically no reason now. He wanted to become a gentlemen so he could marry Estella but now he's not going to so he really wants to go back to way it was before he got the money but he can't. He also doesn't know how to feel about the convict because he didn't like him before and was scared of him because of the fact he broke the law. However, now he has mixed feeling because he has given him so much money but he's still scared of him.
