Commedia Dell'arte Comedy of the Profession

What is Commedia dell'arte?

Each Pose Tells a Story

Commedia dell'arte is a form of theatre characterized by stock characters (archetypes). Each character is distinguishable by their distinct set of attributes: character speech, gesture, props and costumes.

Troupes would perform all around town in improvised performances based on sketches or scenarios. Although some moments would be scripted, the shows relied heavily on improvisational comedy.
