Superintendent's Notes January 25, 2019

Sandite Cheer is heading to National's today to compete against other co-ed teams from around the nation. They performed their routine Wednesday night for friends and family and hit EVERYTHING. Wish them luck as they travel to Dallas this weekend!

Ms. Wilson's Kindergarten class from Pratt visited the Blue Dog Exhibit this week at the Sand Springs Museum. What a great learning experience for some of our youngest Sandites!

Winners of the United Way Drive drawing will be announced next week in the Superintendent Newsletter. Stay tuned to hear the winners of the gift basket, 1/2 day substitute and car wash!

Great picture of the homecoming courts for basketball and wrestling. Proud of these two groups of students!

This week our state administrator organization OASA held the first Legislative Conference of the season. Our Lieutenant Governor, Matt Pinnell spoke and three legislators showed up for a panel discussion. I am encouraged by the positive messaging of the meeting and remain cautiously optimistic. Please stay informed and engaged. We will definitely keep you posted as we move into February.

Meet Garfield's Principal and Counselor for a Day. These two students had a very important meeting at the Superintendent's office today learning what it is like to be a school leader. Thanks Mr. Ragland for sharing your students with us today!

Bond discussions will continue until the bond election on March 5. I encourage you to educate your friends and family about the critical necessity of bond dollars for our district. Tangible information is coming soon, and if you haven't seen me yet, I will be coming to your building to answer any questions you may have. February 8 is the last day to register to vote for this election. If you are not registered to vote I would encourage you to do so and actively exercise this right! It does make a huge difference.

Look at the downward trend in absenteeism at Garfield STEAM Academy. Garfield is incorporating a new idea funded through a grant from Solace Church that is making a difference! Great effort!
This may be a little late, but a great sentiment from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Love this message!

Enjoy the weekend everyone! ~Sherry
