A Winter Getaway

By Tyler R.

The mountains are a wonderful place to go on a winter vacation. You should try it this winter because it’s fun, exciting, and awesome. I even guarantee it will be the best place for you this season. The mountains are one of the biggest places that you will ever enjoy.

You can do many different things in the mountains such as sledding and snowboarding, snow mobiling, tubing, and skiing. Another activity you can enjoy is ice skating in the mountains. When you come inside, you can drink hot chocolate to warm up from the cool weather. Spending time hanging out at the mountain house with your family, playing board games, video games or watching movies are other great indoor options.

Finally, playing in the snow and making snow men and snow angels is another way to spend time in the mountains. If you’re an animal lover, there’s even mountain lions in the mountains. There’s also bears in the mountains that some people can see.

Love is kind

Like the warmth of the sunshine

Love should overflow your heart

Like all of your groceries in your shopping cart

Love is friendship glued at the hip

It makes you dance to the “Nae Nae and the Whip”

Love should be shown every single day

To keep all the negativity away

So always show love and grace

And keep that smile on your face

Cinnamon Ornaments

Danielle D., Mia, Nora, Lexis, and Nick

Ms. Olecki’s Classroom this December decided to make homemade holiday gifts to send home for their family. The students made Cinnamon Ornaments in various Holiday shapes including pine trees, bells and poinsettias flowers. They spent the month learning about Holiday Traditions and felt that it was important to use what they had learned to start a tradition of their own by making gifts for their family.

First the students had to mix up the recipe, half cinnamon and half applesauce. Once the mixture was in a dough form, it was rolled out and cookie cutters (trees, bells and flowers) were pushed into the doughy mixture, holes poked in the top for string and placed aside to dry. The students enjoyed watching the ornaments dry out and harden. The room smelled amazing for days! Once the ornaments were solid enough they could be picked up and held and decorated. The class enjoyed this part the most. They spent the most time on this part. Being creative is one of their biggest qualities. After two or three days of decorating and drying, the students and staff strung the ornaments hand over hand.

Finally, the students were able to wrap their own homemade gifts. They chose between two different wrapping papers, a red and white snowflake or a blue and white snowflake paper. Then they placed the ornaments inside the wrapping paper and wrapped their ornaments around them, tying a string around to secure it. Once the package was complete, they put a tag on it to make sure that their families know that it was from them and they put the wrapped gift in their backpacks to be sent home.

The students enjoyed this activity because it was a process that went on through many days throughout the month of December and hit on many facets of what they have been learning. Discussing traditions and then starting a new tradition of their own was very satisfying to the class. Hopefully our class can do this every year from here on out!

Inauguration Day 2017

By: Justin, Rashiy, Sean, and Timmy

Inauguration Day took place on Friday, January 20th, 2017. On this day, Donald Trump and Mike Pence were sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States of America. They were sworn in at the U.S. Capitol Building. A parade took place on Inauguration Day, and the parade included marching bands, music, and floats. President Donald Trump gave a speech around 12 noon on Friday afternoon after he was sworn in.

On Inauguration Day, the White House is transformed for the new President. This means that a team of people work on taking all of the furniture out of the White House and bring in new stuff such as paint, food, pictures, furniture, and more for the new President. President Obama and his family left the White House on Friday morning. As soon as they left, everyone started making changes for the new President, Donald Trump. One of the most important rooms to redecorate is the Oval Office because it is the room in which the President does all of his work. We think it would be really cool to see all of the changes in the White House.

Express Yourself!

What is art? Art is a way that you can be creative. There are different types of art. There is painting, sketching, sculpting, and pottery. You can be creative with art and there is no wrong or right way you could have fun with art.

Art is something that you could do if you’re bored or if you want to express yourself and your feelings toward someone or something. Like if you are sad or upset about something you can express how you feel by drawing things like certain things that makes you upset. But if you're happy about something you could draw things like flowers, cute animals, and just pretty and colorful designs like swirls and more. It doesn’t have to be realistic things. It could be like a cartoon or just random colors or you could sketch as well or if you want you could draw realistic things.

Art can be a great hobby for anyone. It could also be a great way to make money. You can draw things, paint, sketch, and sculpt. You can sculpt things out of clay and sell them. As a hobby art can be fun to do such as completing arts and crafts. You can makes things like weaving baskets, making shirts, and you can also do origami to keep you busy.

The Unordinary Boy

By Shaniyah

It’s the season of snowmen and sleigh rides. Children are out galavanting on snowy slopes and making snow angels in their backyards. One little boy longs to join them, but he cannot , so he watches from his lonely upstairs window. That little boy is named Magnar which means strong warrior . A strong name for a strong boy. When Magnar was born he was diagnosed with Gluteouses, which is a condition that gives him an oddly shaped head and, alien like hands ,and the inability to walk correctly. As you could imagine making friends was always a difficult thing for Magnar to do.He was always bullied and taunted by the other kids ,he felt no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't fit in. None of the other kids would sit next to him at lunch or in the classroom. When it was time to partner up in room activities no one would want to be his partner. Magnar was a loner, and had no one. One thing Magnar could always count on was the love from his parents. Magnar’s parents were loving and caring individuals they shared many things in common but it was one main thing that set them apart. Magner's father was very supportive and always encouraged his son to go out and make friends despite his disability. Magnar’s mother on the other hand wasn’t so supportive. She wanted her son to go out and make friends but at the same time Magnar’s mother was terrified . She didn’t want her son to go out and experience all the bad things this cruel world had to offer. She knew that people wouldn't be so kind about her son's disability. So Magnar’s mother always kept him sheltered and away from the world. Because of this Magnar never participated in any fun activities or after school programs. And no one ever knew Magnar’s dream. Magnar had always dreamed to be a basketball player and to be on a NBA team. He looked up to and admired Michael Jordan. He wanted to be just like him. Magnar would watch the kids play basketball and want to join so badly. But the kids never allowed him. Aside from the bullying at school Magnar was also singled out by the teachers. They wouldn't let him partake in certain activities or let him go out for recess . So as usual Magnar watched the other kids play. All Magnar wanted was to be treated like a normal kid despite his disability , he wanted people to look at him, as a person, not as the kid with the strange condition. But no one would, they just saw him as that strange kid no one wanted to be around. Soon enough that all changed when the class got a new student . Her name was Wyatt and she had long brown curly hair , green eyes, and a beautiful smile that lit up the whole room. Everyone was infatuated by her from the moment she stepped foot in the classroom. The teacher, Mrs. Greene, had everyone go around the class and say their name, so that Wyatt can become familiar with everyone. After everyone said their name it was now Magnar’s turn. Wyatt looked at Magnar with full interest. Hesitantly Magnar said his name , after the brief introduction Mrs Greene told Wyatt to sit wherever she liked. Wyatt scanned the classroom looking for the perfect seat. Her eyes landed on Magner . She noticed that no one was near him. Magnar looked down at his desk to save himself from the embarrassment of no one sitting next to him and, being completely alone. Wyatt began to walk over to him and much to his and everyone else's surprise, she took a seat right next to him. One boy said “Why would you sit next to that creep?” , Wyatt replied, “The only creep I see is you”. She gave Magnar a big smile. From that day forward, Wyatt and Magnar were the bestest of friends. If anyone dared pick on Magnar they would have to answer to Wyatt. Wyatt even convinced Magnar to try out for the school’s basketball team . Although, he had the fear of rejection he did it anyway, and ended not only making the team, but also becoming the team’s captain. Magnar with the help of Wyatt began to make new friends .Everyone started to see him as a normal kid and for what he really was , not just that kid with the disability. Magnar was forever grateful that Wyatt came into his life and turned his whole world upside down. If it wasn’t for her Magnar would’ve still been that shy kid with the disability.

Magnar gained confidence in himself and began to step out of his comfort zone. And before long he was joining those kids that he use to watch in the upstairs window. That upstairs window was now occupied by a different audience, his parents who watched with full happiness and delight.
