Official Opening and Blessing of Our New Buildings

On Monday we welcomed guests from Catholic Education WA (CEWA) and our local community to officially open stages 10b and 11 our master building plan. Our ceremony started with an inspirational welcome to country by Mr Jimmy Edgar of Nyamba Buru Yawuru. I would like to extend a special thank you to the following:

  • Rev. Monsignor Paul Boyers, the Vicar General for the Diocese of Broome, who blessed crosses for each room, the buildings and the plaques
  • Dr Glenda Scully, CEWA Director of Finance & Infrastructure, for her support and unveiling of the plaques.
  • Hon Rosetta Sahanna MLC, Member for Mining and Pastoral.
  • Mr Patrick Moase, Chair of the School Advisory Council.

Exciting times lay ahead for St Mary’s College. Over the course of 2021 and 2022, our Capital Development Plan will extend into Stage 12 to include the construction of a brand new Pre-Primary building, renovations to our fabulous Jarrarr Buru, development of a new Admin and Student Services Centre on Secondary, a new Secondary Library and IT Centre, the renovation of our Secondary Learning Support Centre, and the renovation of existing facilities for modern classrooms.

Primary Campus Science Fair

On Thursday we had our first Primary Science Fair and the theme in 2021 was Food: Different by Design. The judges had a very challenging job as the students had ingenious inventions on display. Our future scientists put on their thinking caps to find solutions to the world’s food problems. Everyone was buzzing with excitement as they shared their knowledge and designs on a range of topics. We thank Mr Jake for inspiring our students to be future problem solvers of world issues and for his efforts for a successful Science Fair. We thank all the families and staff members who came to support our wonderful students.

Science fun at Our Mob!

The little ones and their families at Our Mob Playgroup had lots of fun during Science Week. We conducted colour mixing experiments, had a go at the Osmosis Celery Experiment, the Capillary Action Experiment, made white flowers change colours and watched how the colours ran into the water in the Colourful Candy Experiment.

Secondary Open Afternoon & Information Night

On Tuesday, the Secondary Campus hosted an information session for prospective families. Our Vision is for St Mary’s College to be recognised as a model of reconciliation in the way we live and promote social justice, Christian values, and support our students to strive for personal excellence.

At St Mary’s we have an image of a learner that is well-rounded, confident, curious, persistent, and creative. We pride ourselves on being able to caters for the individual educational, spiritual and cultural needs of our students. Our teaching style is learner centred and learner driven.

Education is more than just what happens in the classroom. At St Mary’s we pride ourselves on being able to connect our students’ learning to their interests and provide them with real-life experiences. Students learn well when they are encouraged to tap into their own curiosity - it brings the passion needed to persevere through problems and challenges.

Later, in Term 4, we will host our Year 7 Orientation Day. All students enrolled in Year 7 for 2022 will spend a day on campus completing several fun activities where they will have the opportunity to get to know each other, the staff and the College grounds

Whole School Mass of the Assumption

On Wednesday the 18th August, the College celebrated our Mass of the Assumption. This was a significant celebration for us as Mary, Patroness of the school was assumed body and soul into heaven. The Mass was a reverent and respectful liturgy and we had the chance to present Sr Clare and Sr Dorcas with some flowers as a token of appreciation from the school.

Secondary Parking

We take this opportunity to provide you with an important safety update regarding school drop-off, pick-up, and parking on the Secondary campus.

In order to ensure the safety of all students and community members, and to streamline pick-up and drop-off, please note the following:

  • Parents are asked to park in the Guy St car park only (Green on the map)
  • Parents are reminded not to use the Port Drive entrance for pick-up and drop-off - this area is reserved for the school bus link only
  • To utilise the 'kiss and drop' in the Guy St car park, parents are reminded to enter the 'kiss and drop' lane and to keep moving along the line. Students will be directed to the furthest end of the lane. Duty staff will be present to remind students and parents - please follow their directions

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Madalah Ball

Last Saturday night Lavinia and myself, Tania McKenna, attended the Madalah ball in Perth. There were 750 sponsors and patrons present. Lavinia sang ‘I have a Dream’ on the night, this was such a huge event and I am so proud of her. She represented St Mary’s College and was a stand out on the night.
